Watson’s Statement On McGuinty

- October 15th, 2012

From Mayor Jim Watson on Premier Dalton McGuinty’s announcement tonight he’s stepping down:

I want to thank Premier McGuinty for his 22 years of service as MPP for Ottawa South and nine years as Premier.

As a former Minister in his government, I can attest to how dedicated he was to serving our community and province. He never forgot his Ottawa roots and as a result our city can point to hundreds of projects that would not have happened without his support: hospitals, schools, infrastructure projects, to name a few.

He will be remembered as a very good friend of Ontario’s 444 municipalities because of his cooperative and constructive approach to our challenges.

I want to wish the Premier and his family the very best in their next endeavour, and thank him for his service to our community and province. He always conducted himself with dignity, and treated all with respect and courtesy, and it was an honour to serve with him.

I would like to thank Mr McGuinty for stepping down, and can only hope that he publicly appologizes for ever having assumed the role. Dalton: please go back to your fledgling law practice, and stop messing up everyone elses life.
