Well, ATU Local 279, tell us how you really feel about Alain Mercier’s departure!
From the union’s website:
February 22, 2012
Dear Brothers and SistersWe find ourselves in a position today; having reason to believe our future should be noticeably more positive and productive.
The change of our General Manager will resonate an immediate and positive reaction throughout the entire OC Transpo workforce. Our workers and our valued-customer should see the immediate and positive benefits. Perhaps now information will no longer require the filtering, scrutinizing, and ultimately altered by a Manger whose motives were mendacious by nature.
Under the stewardship of Mr. Mercier we have had to endure (including the public) a 53 day labor dispute, which was cleverly engineered by Mr. Mercier. In Arbitrator Keller’s finding, and final ruling he stated in the preamble: ATU 279 had done everything possible to try and avoid a work stoppage. Clearly… the same could not be said for the Management.
Our new General Manager, Mr. John Manconi has a solid history for leading Management teams and workforces. He has been effective in building working relationships with Unions and restoring employee morale and satisfaction. Wow… what a concept! We welcome Mr. Jon Marconi and we promise to work respectively, diligently, and in unison with him as we share out mutual goals.
In Solidarity,
Yogi Sharma

What a joke for Bib Union Boss Queale to contend that Mercier, rather than the insatiable, gluttonous, over-paid, vastly under-worked union thugs, are the “root of all Transpo’s problems”.
The real root of the problem, the union, must be purged, and this can straightforwardly be consummated when our socialist at cit hall proclaim Transpo an “essential service, as Toronto has done with its transportation system.
Eliminating the tax increasing union, that consistently make extreme, outrageous and contemptible and wage/benefit demands, will reduce Canada’s highest taxed city’s transportation expenses since non-unionized employees are more responsible, dependable, work more efficiently, and cost less due to competition.
An additional step to rectify the “root of all Transpo’s problems” would be to swap the existing elected bimbo in charge
I’m apprehensive about Mercier’s replacement since the extreme, voracious, thuggish, Big Union Bosses, who are obsessed with seizing all the power they possible can anyway they can, have articulated contentment and even satisfaction with John Manconi, another over-paid bureaucrat who has been around a long time while the city’s expenses has consistently mounted to un-sustainable levels; do the Big Union Bosses deem that they can dominate him?
A dirty hand should point no fingers.
Instead of celebrating the depature of Mr. Mercier… how about sending a message to the effect that with a new corporate head, it’s incumbent on all parties to put aside dated biases and work hard, work together to solve issues facing public transit in this city. Too much chest bumping, not enough emphasis on bettering the service in an operational and PR sense. Time for all to just get back to work and make the service useable for all.
Taxpayers are screwed if the union looks forward to the new General Manager.
