Last week I published Amalgamated Transit Union Local 279′s take on the collective agreement, so I thought it’s only fair to publish the city’s version of the contract.
This presentation for council was delivered by David White, the city’s litigation and labour relations manager. I was impressed by how frank White was about the past relationship between OC Transpo management and the union. He talked about how the 2008-2009 transit strike had a prolonged negative effect on labour relations and didn’t gloss over the fact that the union seemed to have a deep distrust of management prior to the 2010 municipal election.
I think White pretty much nailed it when he said this deal will let Transpo focus on service delivery, rather than always answering questions about the state of its relationship with employees.
