More praise for John Manconi.
Here’s a section from a report by CUPE 503 to the Ottawa District Labour Council. It was also sent to city council today.
We were pleased to join the delegation of ATU Local 279 and CUPE Local 5500, along with the President of the ODLC, at the City’s Transit Commission meeting, February 29, 2012.
This was an important meeting for our brothers and sisters who work at OC Transpo. It afforded the new manager, John Manconi, an opportunity to provide his views and activities as the person charged with the responsibility of rebuilding OC Transpo and the relationship between management and the unions who represent employees.
John is well known to workers and unions in his former position with the City of Ottawa as an honest and responsible manager who will not sugar-coat any situation within his responsibility, and will go the extra mile to bring the parties together without offending either side.
At today’s Transit Commission meeting, the commissioners got a good taste of what the future holds for them. He was very clear about his management responsibilities, including his respect for the workers and their respective union executive officers and what his team can produce for the citizens of Ottawa.
For the first time in a very long time, those persons sitting at the council horseshoe and the public gallery were treated to a presentation that can only be described as a breath of fresh air. We know from our experience that we expect fair and respectful management from John Manconi. Now let’s get the job done; let’s show the citizens of Ottawa what can be accomplished when we work as a team!
Hopefully Manconi’s kryptonite isn’t inflated expectations.
From a ‘hardnose’ manager to an apparent ‘pushover’. What a dumb letter to write.
