George Lucas says he plans to retire to make small, experimental art films.
Which would be news, except he’s been threatening to do the same thing for literally decades.
I would love to see him make a movie along the lines of 21-87, the NFB short created by Montreal’s Arthur Lipsett that had so much impact on Lucas as a film student.
But sadly, I bet it’s more likely we’ll see an Indiana Jones 5 before Lucas follows through on his oft-made promise to return to his roots.
I am just waiting for some unsuspecting copy editor to write this headline today:
Body parts not connected, police say
I wasn’t all that upset about the water-cannon salute that greeted the team when they landed Monday.
Yeah, the optics are really bad. I’ll grant you that. But the city’s water-emergency ended two days before and I gotta believe no lives were in jeopardy because the water was being used to greet the team as they landed, rather than being available to put out fires.
What gets my goat is the timing of the parade. Who schedules a parade for afternoon rush hour?
To me, that’s something to get worked up about. Why not have the parade in the evening? That way, less traffic would be blocked and presumably more people could come out to take part, since most Londoners work during the day.
Thoughts? If it’s worth doing, isn’t it worth doing right?
