A thought

Accepting the status quo will always be the easier path because doing so requires you to do nothing. To make a change, effort is needed.

A very good thought – and very true! As Gandhi said “Be the change you wish to see in the world” !

Here’s a thought – what’s the point of having a ‘Blog’ section for Free Press reporters when you and James (and occasionally Ian,) are the only ones who ever bother to post anything? The other bloggers here haven’t posted in months/years because of maternity-leave and don’t even work there anymore after taking the buy-out package months ago. And then there’s the ‘Editor’s Blog’ which hasn’t been updated since November of 2010 – his lack of interest is simply jaw-dropping stupid. Big goings on at City Hall these days, but where’s the inside scoop – the blogger devoted to that beat hasn’t posted in over two months. For a newspaper which supposedly is embracing the New Technology, this is just shameful. Here’s something for the Suggestion Box – either (re)hire an online editor – or just shut the whole ”Blog’ section down. Because as it is, the Free Press is only embarrassing itself.

…Your thought applies exactly to City Council’s budget decision to take the easy way out – rather than take on the school yard bully LPS, and its, as usual, bloated demands. No doubt will be the same for the other perennial bully in the yard, LFS. These two sacred cows have always gotten the velvet glove “status quo” treatment. Underneath all of Mayor Joe’s “fighting words”, I suspect he never really intended on standing up to the bullies, as he has given the LPS pretty much (i.e., token “cuts” aside) the same “status quo” treatment once again . He just timidly stepped aside and let the bully take our collective “lunch money” yet again from long suffering taxpayer victim in the school yard. He did it by taking the path of least resistance – i.e., for Joe, and for the other 98 pound weaklings on council, achieving a tax freeze again this year was “…just like taking a wading pool away from a baby “. The taxpayers of this City need a real champion to step up to the bullies for them. For a moment, it looked like that might be Joe – but that moment has passed. “Status Quo Joe” has turned out to be a monumental disappointment. …He sure as hell ain’t the People’s Champion he claimed to be as he came riding in on his white horse at election time.
