Alien prequel

- June 8th, 2012

If anyone goes to see Prometheus, I’d love to read a mini-review from you. I’m hoping to see it this weekend.

Can it live up to decades of expectations? Is it the next 2001: A Space Odyssey? Is a new generation going to be turned on to books like Erich Von Daniken’s Chariots of the Gods?

As a fan of Alien and Aliens, I am looking forward to finding out!

Prometheus..a long awaited film for supporters and fan-boys alike. I am a fan without any doubt I even saw the awful Alien vs. Predator films. I set my mind to one thing, I was not going to view this film as any part of trilogy or fan boy. I was able to do that and in the end saw a really remarkable film.
Now, it’s not perfect by any sense, some holes in script left me asking”why did you do that?” But over all its an impressive film and some really great acting as well. Michael Fassbender has created an iconic character in David that really has “teeth” Naomi Rapace is very intriguing as a driven scientist and what she actually does to survive. Some other characters I had to ask “what did you really bring, why are you here?”. Even with some script issues and some character the film is VERY engaging.
To call this a prequel to the Alien series …well, ok your going to have to with the last scene of the film. There is no way around it. But, the amazing part for me, is that this does change the Alien universe dramatically. Some fan-boys are going to be all bent out of shape over these changes. Personally, I think this new world is much better than the old one with far more possibilities…like…what if the Alien that we have come to fear so much is NOT the worst thing out there? What else is moving around in the inky void of space that has sinister intentions?
The toughest thing to do is actually talking about this film. I would simply be giving to many spoilers and this movie really deserves to be viewed then discussed. Some people are going to hate it, some may find it boring or confusing and a lot of people will find it compelling, but in the end, people will talk about this film.
The visuals are stunning, the questions it asks entertaining and has a bit more brain than brawn compared to many of the summer fare. Ridley Scott has been away from this franchise for a long time but his vision is still head and shoulders above many directors. I truly enjoyed the picture and I can see people gong to see it a second time to not only see things they missed the first time, but, just to see it again due to its beauty and depth.
I know I am going again.
