A Chinese newspaper says the tearful finish to hurdler Liu Xiang’s Olympic career was scripted with the full knowledge of the athlete.

The head of Chinese state television admitted this week to the Oriental Guardian that four scripts were created with the understanding that the runner would probably not finish the race due to injury.

Liu Xiang crashed into the first hurdle and tumbled, failing to finish the race at the London Olympics. After crashing, he hobbled into the tunnel before reemerging to limp down the track and kiss the last hurdle.

It was one of the most heart-tugging moments of the Games — the audio of Chinese announcer Yang Jian’s emotional call was replayed on NBC and BBC broadcasts — and it was fake, one of four possible endings to be used. The deception has caused outrage on China’s version of Twitter, Weibo.

Government lies to manipulate people for their own agenda…I am shocked!
