Friday defrag

- June 17th, 2010

Thursday night again. It’s been a busy one here.

This is just a short post to get you rolling on the defragging Friday morning.

And yes, I will be on radio at the usual time — 10 a.m.

The Friday roundtable is slated to discuss:

— the departure of Numatics from London after 30 years; is London an anti-business city?

— London’s poster boys (those dudes who got arrested for the anti-summit fliers)

— council’s spending spree — should they be able to vote themselves a raise?

And, of course, the topic on everyone’s lips . . . vuvuzelas!

For the poster boys, it’s all about the money. They spend the night in jail because the cops want “special conditions”. Tough luck for them. And although a law remains in place, Mr Fahri’s signs are untouched. Don’t mess with the city’s biggest landlord. We may rent our new city hall from him.

I may have found the local hangout for supporters of Mexico in the World Cup. They were having a blast yesterday when their team won. At times, yesterday, you could hear the singing above the vuvuzelas.

Shuffling off to Buffalo next week. Seriously, I was inspired by an article in the paper a couple of weeks ago. I haven’t been anywhere except Stratford since I got back, and I chose to go there strictly by reading this. I already knew the Albright-Knox gallery was there – but couldn’t think of any other reason to go until now.

Anti business…no way…look how fast they approve sidewalk patios!

Council should get a raise…but with the raise goes more direct accountability…heavy is the head that wears the crown

I know I race to the door every morning to read Morris D’s soccer column…” as Larry David would say “pretty pretty pretty big fan”

travellingeorge: Let us know how Buffalo goes. I’ve been once, to a tavern-type restaurant, and the food was amazing. Forget the name of the place. Got any weekend plans?

gary4567: Full-time councillors would be a huge mistake. They’d feel like they have to justify their salaries, so we’d get even more brilliant ideas along the lines of backyard chickens. I want the time my representatives spend thinking up ideas severely limited.

This weekend will be quiet while I firm up my itinerary. I hope to catch a free performance of Much Ado About Nothing in Delaware Park. San Francisco also does the same, which I hope to catch when I’m there.

So I’ll be gardening, and may finally finish painting my basement. I’ve had out of town guests twice this week and I’ve also been to Toronto, so that was enough.

I also need a break – Squeak has been very clingy the past two weeks.

And Dan, might you have been at the Anchor Bar? They make the claim of inventing Buffalo wings. I plan to find out what their suicide sauce is like.

travellingeorge: Anchor Bar sounds familiar . . .

Well I’m kinda late to the defrag party but when I heard about this story, I threw up in my mouth a bit. I know that modern society has pretty much abandoned the concept of personal responsibility and accountability but this is ridiculous. I’m no Rogers fan but in my book, they did nothing wrong here. The woman has an affair and the husband figgures it out from reading the log of her calls on the bill. Are we now that Americanized that we’re going to allow this “my coffee was too hot so I’m suing McDonald’s” type of lawsuit??
Perhaps next, a guy will sue Microsoft because his browser history showed his wife that he’d been to some “naughty” sites and neglected to purge the hisotry?

nflfan: That story is crazy. I went on Adler to talk about this story. Tough luck, lady. You cheat, you take the consequences — both intended and otherwise.
