Halen

- February 15th, 2012

According to this story on lfpress.com, Van Halen’s new release has underperformed in its first week on the charts.

The album includes songs that are based on outtakes of half-finished tracks from back in the day.

Maybe the group would have sold more units if they followed my repeated advice to re-form the band with BOTH David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar as singers.

Wouldn’t that strategy have appealed to ALL of the band’s fans? Wouldn’t that have maximized their appeal?

If East and West Germany can reconcile, then Roth and Hagar can put aside their differences — especially when there’s money to be made.

Has anyone heard the new disc? I watched the video for Tattoo, the leadoff single, which was pretty much the same old same old.

seriously – old 80′s / 90′s bands need to stop making music that’s “relevant to kids these days”. They need to make music like they used to – it was kick ass back then and I’m sure it would be kick ass now. If they stayed true to what moved them, maybe they would do better.

Dan, go and pick up the cd and have a listen. I haven’t put it down since I bought it (the deluxe version which has 4 vids of them doing acoustic tracks one being “you really got me”)

People go to see Eddie, not Sam or Dave… I got the opportunity to sit in on a soundcheck with them and everyone was glued to Eddie’s guitar playing. Dave is a bonus to watch and listen to.

To Quote David Lee Roth – “Van Halen is what it is…a backyard bonanza in your headphones, basement, garage or on top of your neighbor’s wife! Just turn it up and wear protection! “

I have heard the new VH cd and the tatoo is pop Rock, not hard Rock.
Personally i have seen VH with both Sammy Hagar & David Lee Roth and Sammy bring’s alot more to the table then David.
I agree these band’s have to stay true to what made them in the first place, buy playing good Rock n Roll and not worry about what kid’s enjoy listening to today,

Give the kid’s a taste of what made you famous by playing good Rock n Roll and watch the kid’s melt.
