Mayoral politics

- February 28th, 2012

The next municipal election is years off, which makes now the perfect time for some wild speculation about local politics.

Do you have any thoughts on who might run for mayor next time out?

Will Mayor Joe — who said on the campaign trail he planned to serve only a single term — surprise no one by throwing his hat into the ring again?

Is there anyone currently on council you would expect, or even like, to run for the top job at City Hall?

Is there anyone else in the community — like former Liberal MP Glen Pearson, who is much in the headlines these days — you could see taking a shot at the mayor’s chair?

Are there any dark-horse candidates looming — say, a guy like MPP Chris Bentley? (Yes, you may get the Liberal of your choice!)

Let me know your thoughts on this one. If you’re of a mind to start any rumours, remember all speculation is welcome! The more absurd the better!

Is Paul Berton leaving the editorship of the Hamilton Spectator to return to London and run for mayor?

    Steve Stunning?

Personally, I’d like to send Rob Ford your way.

I think an asteroid would have to hit and wipe out every place in London except the food bank before Pearson ever got in. You can’t run a city, especially one with not a hope in hell of recovering economically in the next 10 years, on a can of pork and beans in every wooden bowl ideology.

I can see a hard assed, no nonsense Ms or Mr. Mean taking it. Not looking good for London, not good at all on the economy front. London will need to have someone come in and start cleaning house, cutting the fat, and to do whatever it takes to bring jobs to London. If that means bringing in the fracking crews, so be it.

Need a right of centre woman to run with a husband on a short leash

To Elaine;s point it will be ugly so you got to be able to take some shots

Ugh, if JoFo runs again, I will not be surprised. If Londoners fall for his crap again, I will not be surprised. Blah!

I will definitely throw my hat behind Nancy Branscombe for mayor!

Would we get Nancy the left wing socialist or a Nancy which way is the wind blowing today? She is too flighty methinks. Need a real hard ass, someone consistent, a Deb Grey type. Cheryl Miller comes to mind, she’d have to toughen up some.

…Whoever it is, I just hope he/she has the courage to stand up to the long standing biggest bullies in the school yard (and leave the easy targets like toddlers in wading pools, and the homeless, alone). Joe sure acted like he was going to be “that guy”. Huge disappointment he has turned out to be. He talked the talk – but couldn’t do the walk. …Man oh man, the bullies just didn’t take Joe’s lunch – they ate Joe for lunch.
