Slow jammers

- May 23rd, 2012

On the drive in to work this morning, I got caught behind a car doing 45 km/h in a 60 zone.

I have always been in favour of posted minimum speed limits, like they have in the States.

My logic: We ought to remind drivers that going too slow can potentially be just as dangerous as going too fast.

Thoughts?

Aggravating as heck! Dangerous…no. WE become the danger because I, like you, become so impatient that I might do something dangerous just to get around them. Not sure what the answer is, but to tell someone they have to speed up when they are not comfortable doing so doesn’t seem quite right. Yes, I do believe in posted minimum speed limits, BUT…having just returned from the States, I noticed that the posted minimum speeds are usually 15 miles per hour less than the maximum, so your slow driver this morning was probably within the minimum that would have been allowed: -)

I was away for a month and then when I returned, you were away…It’s nice to be blogging again!

pinkypie: It’s good to be talking to you again! So what’s the answer? Don’t tell me I have to be more patient. My gut reaction is, if you’re not comfortable barely doing the minimum speed, why are you on the road? By the way, M’Lady mentioned making a pink-lemonade pie the other day . . . just in time for summer!

Dan: Sorry…”You (and I) have to be more patient!” What you are saying Dan is that the maximum posted should be the minimum also. When hubby and I go for a drive along the lake and we’re only doing 65 or 70 in a maximum 80 zone, who are you to tell me we shouldn’t be on the road?!?! We’re not uncomfortable driving faster, we just don’t want/have to and I say, if you want to be first in line, pass me! Now if your driver this morning had been driving say, only half the posted maximum or so, I’d say there was a definite problem and they shouldn’t be on the road.

I actually didn’t think it possible, but while in Florida this year, I actually had my fill of key-lime pie (yes, really!!!) and had to make us a big, fluffy pink-lemonade one one weekend…it was awesome!

We’ve become used to the maximum being the minimum and anyone going below it is annoying! I think the gauge here is the “regular flow of traffic”. If someone is coasting 15 km below and has five cars queued up behind them, there’s a problem. If they’re alone on the road, they ARE the flow. If someone behind them wants to do the speed limit, they’re in the way of the flow. In other words Dan, I’m with you on this one!

Take down the licence number and contact him or her to complain about your inconvenience.

Dan, you only see such signs re min speed on federal highways, not in a city, or perhaps you travel to different cities than I do.
