Have you been watching the Olympics at all? What do you think?
I like how the athletes from countries like China bow to the judges (or maybe it’s the audience) when they finish a dive/routine/race/et cetera. I like that sign of respect.
My father was telling me on the weekend that among Japanese athletes, it’s a huge shame to win an individual medal but not a team medal in a sport where there are both individual and team events. Quite a contrast from the North American stress on the individual.
I appreciate how some of the commentators go out of their way to explain to the audience the finer points of the sport. I never knew, for instance, that women’s water polo was such a bruising game. They really jostle each other and it’s very physical.
