At the Graham James sentencing hearing in Winnipeg yesterday, Theo Fleury submitted an emotional statement on the hell the pedophile/hockey coach put him through as a teen.

Fleury said, in part, that James “took the time and the energy to sexually abuse me every chance he got. And believe me, he will do it again and again and again if ever given the chance. He has no remorse. A monster who will sexually assault children should never be let loose in society — never.”

Two questions. First, can a pedophile ever be reformed? Or is Fleury right? Are these predators beyond redemption?

Second, if perverts who prey on children can’t be reformed, what should we do with them as a society?

You can read the entire statement on Fleury’s website.

Hey Dan ; Theo Fleury’s statement was beyond comprehendible for me. Having two young children myself ; the thought of someone doing that to my children, I can’t even put into words how that makes me think I would feel, let alone what I could actually feel if – God forbid- it did happen.

As a parent, if an expert stated a pedophile could be reformed, the first thing I ask myself is you have to be 1000% positive that person would never assault a child again because the problem is, if he does, it’s another child victim. It’s definitely not something you could take lightly. If I was a medical expert I don’t even think I would want to comment on the fact someone is “reformed” because it would hang on my conscious if they ever repeated their offense.

As for what we should do for them, well, you might not post my comment if I said my thoughts :)
