Packed weekend for me. It didn’t help that I got sucked into watching the whole Oscar ceremony last night.
Oh well. At least they didn’t too do much scolding of the viewing audience for watching movies on DVDs and other devices, as opposed to in theatres. They kept the guilt trips to a minimum, unlike past years.
With the documentary-style montages of stars talking about their movie experiences, they seemed to be trying the opposite strategy — inspiring people to trudge to the local cineplex, rather than making them feel bad for doing what the majority of movie watchers do these days.
It’s been years since Hollywood made more money at theatres than in DVD sales, pay-per-view, downloads et cetera. But I guess the exhibitors still have an iron hold on the Academy.
Who knows, one of these years the Academy might even acknowledge reality — perhaps with a specific DVD category.
It could happen.
