Disgrace. Shame. Obscene. The police demonstrated in Toronto on Saturday that they are simply incapable of keeping the city safe and unwilling to impose law and order. Cruisers set on fire, bricks and stones thrown at will, windows smashed, property destroyed. Why is it that a law-abiding citizen can be stopped on his way to work for fifteen minutes by two or three cops and fined and humiliated because he drove a few miles an hour over some contrived limit or turned left on a empty road that had a cop car hiding but genuine and graphic violence is allowed to occur without challenge?
The police either were not present when rioting was taking place or chose not to act. The rioters were mostly middle-class brats who would run at the first sign of determined resistance but were allowed to have their fun and because of this will repeat the violence over and over again. Police cruisers were abandoned by cops and left to burn – public money going up in smoke of course. There were thousands of armed police present with body armour, weapons and the like. Why, then, was so little done?
Chief Bill Blair should resign but surely won’t – perhaps he is too busy meeting with Gay Pride Parade organisers for next week to actually protect innocent Canadians. I cringe at the thought that these images will be shown across the world and seen in countries that still have police forces more concerned with arresting hoodlums than dealing with so-called hate crimes and appearing diverse and politically correct. If I were a cop today I’d be ashamed to wear the uniform.
PS: An idea. Tell the cops that these anarchist criminals are actually confused, gentle Polish visitors trying to find help at an airport. Not only will deadly force ensue but the police will lie about it all after the fact.
That the problem after the Vancouver airport incident everyone is scared, already the ‘children’ are whining about being pepper sprayed, no doubt a public enquiry will now be held.
On your TV show when David Menzies calls it the “pansification of the police force” you always disagree and debate him. Is this a devils advocate approach for entertainment value or do you owe him an apology?
I was stopped on my bicycle recently by three cops because I didn’t have a bell on my bicycle. Can you believe it?
You really don’t get much for a Billion dollars anymore, but thank God Fake Lake Harper is safe.
I am having a real problem reconciling the fact that we spent $1B on security, had 19,000 police officers on the streets, including water canons and noise makers, miles and miles of fences, extraordinary police powers thanks to our brilliant Premier..and yet, a small group of thugs managed to spread chaos and destruction by simply wearing black clothes and black hoods, the way they have done it during their last umpteen destructive sessions around the world.
Oh, I also forgot to mention that many groups publicly declared that they were in favor of violence, or at least not opposed to it.
While the conclusion should be “who are the incompetents who should be out of a job?”, our conclusion will be “see, we should have spent even more money on security”.
This really was a sad and pathetic display. And another full day to come. I kept hearing about police gathering in force, readying tear gas and donning masks, mounted officers….and then nothing.
They kit out in ultra chic swat clothing, swagger and all, and seem to assume this will work.
It’s probable this passivity is enforced from the top down.
Tell the police that the next cruiser to go up in flames will be paid for out of their doughnut fund. THEN you’ll see some action.
Seriously, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the police will never intervene when the perps are leftists. Nudity and antisemitism at Gay Pride? No charges laid. Natives setting up blockades? No charges laid. Labour union marches turning into full-blown riots? Yawn.
One gets the feeling they’re not here to protect the public at all, but rather to enforce the left-wing OPSEU agenda.
Maybe if they had dressed up as native indians or muslims the police would have made sure there was nothing that had to be burnt or wrecked in their way. Heck they probably would have assisted them in their endeavour whatever the hell it actually was.
Between the world leaders meeting and the protesters screaming I trust that the worlds hungry people will all have square meals on Monday.
Can there any longer be a doubt in anyone’s mind that those on the left are sick, twisted, violent individuals. It is time to take the gloves off while dealing with these animals.
Anyone that votes for the NDP or even the Liberals should hang their heads in shame.
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Everybody should have a look at this raw footage from CTV:
http://watch.ctv.ca/news/latest/summit-protest/#clip318869
It’s not just the footage of hooligans smashing store fronts and digging up bricks for weapons that is so disturbing, it’s the behaviour of the supposedly “legitimate” “protesters” surrounding them. Most just saunter along, ignoring the vandalism; some cheer them on and applaud; the guys carrying the CUPE banners do absolutely nothing. And note the total absence of any police presence as the thugs demolish the street.
After this, I don’t want to hear from the union organizers that it was just a few individuals who “joined on” to their protest. Their own crowd enabled, and in some instances actively supported, the criminal acts: it’s all there on tape. And I don’t want to hear what a great job the police did, either.
Not surpisingly, the Toronto Star expresses concern that the police used (O the cruelty! A vicious fascist police state!) tear gas, pepper spray, and rubber bullets against the ignorant anarchist thugs and their encyphalophobic leftist lawless minions. Perhaps the police should have used real bullets.
Bill Blair Presser: “There are no American troops in Baghdad!”
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DfCoy_kQh08/TCan42FEMSI/AAAAAAAACIM/-NAIDSqtalo/s1600/info-minister-inside.jpg
so these hooligans are allowed to cover their faces when the cops KNOW they are going to do mischief!? yet a peaceful women covering her face walking down a street should be banned?
Baghdad Bill Blair: It’s sad this labour protest was “hijacked by radicals” as CityTV shows a great big CUPE flag in the midst of the rioters;)
They give the cops Segways, which go for $7,000 and up? Can’t they, uh, walk?
Hijacked? It looked like they were in cahoots to me.
Cops are first and foremost public union members. Their dues have probably helped fund the rioters. Why would they want to arrest their “brothers”?
Those are Red Chinese cops with the Segways, Dexter, not ‘ours’. (Unless they were invited by McGuinty and Miller and they’re the politicians to whom the CSIS boss was alluding.)
Silly question, why do these guys keep meeting in downtown cities? Seriously, Sydney had the APAC mess, Seattle with the previous G20 summits. Honestly, in a world of almost limitless telecommunications (and most politicians raising alarm over Global Warming), what are they really doing in person in a major metro area that CAN’T be done on some ship in the middle of nowhere.
Next time, rent a cruise ship, put the US Navy around it and be done with it.
I watched the raw CTV footage. Wow, a terrorist could send in one little girl to take out Toronto. Your cops are a bunch of sissies.
Love the title ‘RCMP Yellow Stripe Now to be Worn by all Canadian Cops!’ Will the yellow stripe run down their backs?
I’m told that using machine guns on them is counterproductive. I’ve never figured out why.
Can three left wingers get into the same room without trashing a Starbucks?
How can anyone just watch this happen?
If the police won’t fight them, why can’t you? This isn’t the Mafia we’re talking about, it’s guys in hoodies throwing rocks.
Where are the business owners? Waiting for the insurance adjusters?
This is PATHETIC.
The first casualty of the battle was a Toronto cop who died of shame. They carved in his tombstone the words ‘He refused to be provoked’.
I want my goddam money back. Those cops are pussies. The next profoundly tragic terorist attack will take place in Toronto. Who the hell is in charge?
Coren, until you have a clue about what policing entails, you might want to think about the old adage of idiots keeping their mouths shut so as to ensure you do not remove all doubt.
Well said Michael, 90% are white middle class thugs and as a proud CAW memeber i am appalled at our presence yesterday(not being violent but just being there)
Michael although i don’t take David Menzies very seriously i do indeed believe you owe him and apology.
I can hardly wait until Claire Hoy and Sid Ryan square off on your program.
P.S.
I honestly believe the Toronto Star are enemies of the Canadian People, they encouraged and support these radical idiots and have help neuter the Police Forces(Services?) in Toronto and across Canada.
When the mob is out of control the police’s responsibility is to keep people safe, property can be replaced but loss of human life can’t. However I to was alarmed at the Brass’s lack of moxie when dealing with the violent thugs, they aren’t or weren’t protestors they are criminals and sadly they won’t face the full force of the law because the police were busy ensuring people weren’t harmed.
By Jim M’s post it’s safe to assume he is either a cop or is somehow linked to them. Jim, suck it up. Let us introduce you to the elephant.
Right on Michael, an absolute disgrace how ineffective the police were. Mark Steyn had a great line, said our national anthem should be changed to”O Canada, we stand around for thee”.
What bugs me most about the CTV footage is the citizen attempting to make a citizen’s arrest who is promptly surrounded and intimidated by the “protesters”. That is one brave man. He was trying to do what the police wouldn’t do — ie, their jobs.
There are disturbing reports on the Web of cases where a citizen’s arrest was attempted, and the police ordered the citizen to let the perp go. Can anyone confirm this? It sounds an awful lot like similar incidents at Gay Pride and Caledonia.
RE: Kent State, Good old days of
Yeah, if only the police had the nerve to summarily execute the rioters in the street (“real bullets” and “machine guns” and all that) that would have been a civilized response. Should this “shoot on sight” approach be public policy during sports championships and other events which inspire this sort of upsetting, indefensible but minor criminality? Hundreds were arrested and four of the black-clad conspirators have already appeared in court. What would have been a suitable reaction? Beheading them and parading their carcasses through the streets? (You know, to show how civilized we are.)
How many people were killed or seriously injured in this “obscene disgrace” by the way? I mean, I guess showering crowds with assault weapons would be classier. I get it. It’s all part of this pathetically transparent, albeit somewhat successful attempt to imply a causal link with left-leaning activist groups with this sort of idiotic thuggery. I mean, who’s going to get more mileage out of the burning cars and smashed windows? Hint: it’s not the goofballs in black.
Anyways, carry on with the tangential homophobia; red-phobia; racism and paranoid fantasies about “leftists.” Its always glorious to hear terrible arguments for intermittently reasonable opinions.
Who stole Canada’s balls?
Leftist Hack Zealot
You say that as if shooting down rioting reactionary left-fascist thugs would be a bad thing.
Hmmm.
Maybe the insurance companies should sue the cops. But at the end of the day it’s always the taxpayer who gets fisted. Over and over and over and………….
I have always held the opinion that if the odd higher level police or justice official of a major city isn’t occasionally whacked by some crime mob or other from time to time, there should be pointed questions asked as to what level of enforcement, prosecution, or corruption is on offer.
Should this “shoot on sight” approach be public policy during sports championships and other events which inspire this sort of upsetting, indefensible but minor criminality?
Frankly, yes.
You’re either supporting civilization or opposed to it, and if your behavior indicates that you’re opposed to it, then I have no problem whatsoever with the notion that you should be summarily expelled from it, whatever supposedly mitigating rationalization you might have for acting like a savage.
In areas where Fire Fighters do a good job in protecting property by quick and efficient reactions, fire insurance is low, where they just show up and let it burn to the ground, insurance goes up! As a result, community leaders take appropriate action by replacing the Fire Fighters with better ones. Sometimes the opposite happens, where the good ones are fired, the bad take over they hire their lazy chums and everybody’s insurance goes up and the cycle begins anew.
Perhaps we need something similar for the Police in Ontario, except that when they just stand by and let criminals take over because they’re afraid of getting hurt, getting bad lefty press, or God forbid, get hauled up before a Human Rights complaint, the cost burden be shared by the Police budget.
To The Wussy Police:
That’s right, you stood by while you let your cruiser burn, part of that’s coming out of your pay (every cop’s pay). You let riotous wankers trash Yonge St and couldn’t be bothered to way into the fray and stop it, the cost of glass replacement and clean up comes out of the Police budget.
If those last two sentences had any truth to them, does anyone think the existing Policing Tactics might change?
To Serve (themselves) and Protect (their own asses). It looks more and more like the basic Policing tactic when dealing with anyone is to practice their authority, except where the bad guy might hint at getting violent, then the tactic changes to standing by, hopefully waiting for the violence to end, and then go out and make an arrest once they’ve tired themselves out and gone to sleep.
Leftist Hack Zealot just laid the proverbial smack down on everyone else in this comments thread
I find this situation especially ironic, given that only a couple weeks ago, Blazing Cat Fur got dressed down and asked to move away from a demonstration by the police, even though he was in an area open to the public and was doing nothing more than peacably and legally recording the event. Obviously, the Toronto police are to great of cowards to tackle the real problems we face.
Yeah, the police should have shot some tear gas into the crowd, that would have sent everyone home quietly.
Michael, the next time there’s going to be a public demonstration, be sure to get Chief Blair on your show so you can advise him on how to deal with an angry mob.
“The police … are simply incapable of keeping the city safe and unwilling to impose law and order.”
This could be Vancouver or any other city in the western world. They have abdicated their responsiblities and simply rake in the bucks and the pensions while “observing” the law breaking rather than enforcing laws, which is what they are paid to do.

No you didn’t….
Hey Jim…please tell us all what policing entails, I have a minute.
Last summer I had a customer come to me for an emergency laptop setup. His previous unit had been stolen out of his vehicle. The neighbor’s vehicle was also broken into and his work computer stolen. The criminal injured himself in the commission of the second crime and left his blood — and bloody fingerprints — in Carl’s truck.
The RCMP were called. The constable who eventually showed up told my customer that there was no point investigating as “we can never catch these buggers”. He didn’t bother collecting any of the physical evidence at the scene (like a blood sample), nor did he even bother to photograph the nearly perfect bloody fingerprint, which the customer photographed instead and was then informed that the RCMP wouldn’t use.
It’s worth noting that the same RCMP who can’t be bothered to investigate actual crimes can be counted to show up like clockwork at the local bar every evening to make sure no one is smoking a ciggy in public. That sort of thing is dangerous, you know.
Anyone thinking of moving to Cereal, Alberta, shouldn’t bother unless they’re willing to protect their own property — the RCMP sure as hell won’t. Smokers need not apply.
Leftist Hack Zealot..
Must be nice to be able to support those that commit the violence, and sit back and smugly berate those who are affected by it, or who want it stopped.
Frustration may bring out some heated comments, but don’t overlook the fact that people are truly angry with the lefts’ tactics and those rioters should watch their step.
Sometimes having your cake and eating it too involves having it shoved down your throat.
@Leftist Hack Zealot
Proper response? Water cannons, tear gas, billy clubs and boots to the back of the head. Arrests and years of jail time. You want to riot for your imaginary leftist statist paradise? Fine. Riot. And pay the price. Fucking criminal thugs.
“It’s all part of this pathetically transparent, albeit somewhat successful attempt to imply a causal link with left-leaning activist groups with this sort of idiotic thuggery.”
Her’s a question for you, Zealot. If this is all just a conspiracy to “imply a causal link with left-leaning activist groups with this sort of idiotic thuggery.”, why is it that this thuggery only occurs when you and your ilk gather to “peacefully protest”? Down in the states those tea party folks have been demonstrating for more than a year without violence, why is it that every singly time your group of asshats gets together this kind of thing is the result? There’s no casual link “implied”, this is how your side does business. This is the tune you always call, I think it’s about time y’all started to pay the piper.
