It was only a matter of time. Some of us have reported for months now that Jewish students have been intimidated and threatened on campuses across Canada by Islamic thugs. Now Nick Bergamini has been attacked with a lethal weapon and, it seems, could easily have been killed. He happens not to be Jewish but a conservative, a Zionist and friendly with Jewish and Israeli students. First they came for the Jews, then they came for their friends, then … we have more Israeli Apartheid Week sessions. Here is how Nick explains what happened:
“Around 1:45am, as we were leaving the bar, and we heard the shout of ‘Zionist’ in Arabic. We stood our ground. Quickly we had three guys around us. We were able to push them away. As the cowards that they were, they retreated. Then I heard, shouts of “Open the trunk!” One of them opened the trunk and I saw glistening in the street light the reflection of a 12-inch machete. “Fucking Jew,” he shouted. I began to run for my life as he was only 5 or 6 feet away. I ran, and as I looked back, I saw the long shiny blade slicing through the air about 12 inches from my neck. I ran as fast I could and, thanks to my grade 9 track and field training, got away.
“People who were around the scene said the blade came within inches of my neck. Now, the debate on campuses has reached the next level. In this country, people are no longer safe if they support Israel. But you know what? I will never take back my beliefs. I support Israel 100%.”
The Ottawa police are investigating and Nick is determined to continue his work and not compromise on his politics. Welcome to the free exchange of ideas at our publicly-funded universities and the “safe spaces” that other Ottawa students screamed about when they prevented Ann Coulter from speaking last week.

Knowing the timeline on this event, it is now 2300 hrs, 5 Apr 2010. I write this with CTV National playing in the background. There is no mention of this. Do I disbelieve? No. I I believe. Yes. Am I certain of the event? No.
Any of you bloggers who have read what I write, or would bother to read my mostly banal missives, will know that I have no love of Islam. So it pains me to do this.
The answers to the questions I pose myself are indicative of the association of the pertpetrators. As I questioned at Vled Tepes, why didn’t the victims go to the authorities immediately, or at least, the very next day considering the witnesses in the story.
This is a serious assault. The most serious concerning a machete since the infamous machete assault in Fort Coulonge, Quebec in ’85, which is part of the Ottawa River Valley.
The use of Blades and the Ottawa Valley mostly has a good history, if you put aside the history of whiskey and violence of the lumber barons. This new history of machete use has nothing to do with the industry, which built the valley, and I need not explain the obvious.
Again, I await for the proof, the testimony, and quantifiable police investigations to leave no reasonable doubt that this was specifically a crime committed as it was described. Because if it is, the CAF and the CIC can no longer continue to parade their fallacy of Islamophobia, which only applies to citizens who know nothing of Islam, but must finally vocalize a call for all Canadians, regardless of their belief, to assimilate and follow the rule of law.
After all, how hard is it to be nice. I just hope nobody gets screwed over if this is a hoax.

Kaffir_Kanuck, I personally know Nick Bergamini and knowing him well, I know that he wouldn’t make this up. Having said that, he did go to the police (Gatineau Police) to report this before going to the media as reported in several newspapers (such as the Ottawa Citizen and the National Post).
I think this is very discouraging because I think people have to leave their hate back in their home countries. This is Canada! Not a country built on violent revolution nor religious law. The perpetrators of these acts have to realise the kind of society in which we live, which is one of tolerance and peace, not hate and violence.
Now, I think this can be labelled a hate crime, I’d like to see if the Canadian or Ontario Human Rights Commissions have anything to say about this. I’m guessing they won’t because this attack was against a Christian supporting Israel. If a role reversal were to happen, say for example a Christian who supports Israel taking out a machete and attacking a muslim, I guarantee that you’d see all the left-wing student union presidents, such as Seamus Wolfe, denouncing the act immediately (even if it was a hoax) and calling for “justice”. Their idea of justice is only for a select few that they agree with politically. It’s so comforting to know that the current students of our country will be the judges, journalists and public servants of the future (note the sarcasm).

Gee, this kind of incident doesn’t seem to happen in Idaho or other US states with “shall issue” concealed weapons permit laws. The potential victims tend to carry concealed handguns, which seems to have a calming effect on the radical Islamics. I just wanted to point out that it is not clear (in the original post anyway) that this indident took place in Gatineau Quebec and NOT at Carleton U in Ottawa.
What’s wrong with this story? Why is it that CanWest newspapers & the Ottawa Sun seem to be the only media who have picked this up? I’ve read these articles several times & it seems to me that somehow we’re not getting the whole story here. Unlike most of the other posters here, I’m reserving judgement until I hear what the police have to say.
If the police investigation finds that any of the attackers are not Canadian citizens, they should IMMEDIATELY be deported to their country of origin.

The non-Muslims at that time spent days and nights plotting to kill the Prophet and exterminate all Muslims. What did you expect in return? What do you expect now? The same thing is happening now. If Israel did not invade Palestine 50 somewhat years ago, non of this will have happened. If America never invaded Iraq, again, this would not occur. What do you people expect from Muslims in return for crime and murder and rape??? When the surrounding Arabs vowed to wipe Israel off the map in an Islamic fueled anti-Semitic campaign of Grand Mufti-esque inspired genocide in 1948, the Israeli Arab population, either coerced or displaced by the ensuing existential war, became refugees. I am not too surprised by this, although I should be.
One of my strangest working relationships was with a young Pakistani Muslim who mentioned machetes a number of times. He often talked about the “free masons” and the “Zionists” that ran the world. All Islamist violence was the fault of the wahhabis.
He frequently had aggressive confrontations with people in public — particularly on the road, where he would stare people down or follow people, going out of his way and challenge them to a fight for slighting him. He drove fast and dangerously and accused the cops of picking on him by pulling him over for being non-white.
He said he was allowed four wives and was actively looking for the second while planning to marry the first. About the first, who was studying to work in a lucrative profession, he said he would send her out to work so that he could stay home and use the money she earned to flip real estate for a living. When I asked about the requirement of taking care of them equally, he said that there were ways other than financial support to treat women equally. He was planning to make a trip to the foreign country in which his fiancee was studying to “take care of” a guy that was trying to pursue her romantically.
His own father was not in the picture.
A lot of his ideas seemed to come from the mosque he attended (I don’t know which one). A couple of them, I responded with straightforward logic that counteracted them and he agreed with me as if he’d never heard a counterargument.
But, that was one person out of the many working relationships I’ve had. He is the only person I’ve met who I could see committing violence based on a religious justification. Last I heard, he had moved to Iran. I suppose Canada was not sufficient.
And he also had a negative reaction to the mention of Michael Coren

From the Hadith we know that Mohammed said this to his early Muslim followers to get them motivated to raid trade caravans.
Yes, the point of this verse was ARMED (swords) ROBBERY, not violence for the sake of death (murder). Modern day jihadists routinely quote this verse in jihadi media/literature.

Does the Quran address those not willing to fight to ‘establish all religion for Allah’? Of course it does….
Quran 4:95 – “Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) and receive no hurt, and those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah with their goods and their persons. Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home). Unto all (in Faith) Hath Allah promised good: But those who strive and fight Hath He distinguished above those who sit (at home) by a special reward.” (Dozens of virgins, rivers of wine, blah blah blah)
And let’s not forget about ‘Naskh’…

Quranic verses replacing/canceling verses that they contradict.
ie: The calls to violence later ‘revealed’ to Mohammed in Medina cancel out the earlier peaceful verses ‘revealed’ to him in Mecca.
The sheer number of calls to violence is sickening.

How many Arab/Muslim governments financially support revolts/jihads in other countries?
Seems every MiddleEast government has a proxy group off in some other M.E. country.
Who knows their Islam better; a person born in Scarborough, unable to read/understand Arabic, or a person born in the Middle East, communicating in Arabic, and never making apologies for Islam?
Seems one would like to save their own skin, and the other would gladly pierce mine.

And I would think it quite obvious the cancellation was due to the actions of the students and activists. It was called off because public safety and that of the speakers was at issue. Not to mention the property damage that would no doubt ensue beyond what was done.
