Tim Hortons is turning back the clock and bringing back a taste of the 1960s.

In honour of its 50th anniversary, the company unveiled five classic menu items – one per decade – and allowed the public to vote on which item they would like brought back for a limited time.

The candidates were the eclair, sugar twist, pecan butter tart, chocolate sour cream glazed donut and the bread bowl.

Voting ran from May 1-14 and Thursday morning they announced the eclair, which garnered 40% of the votes, as the winner.

“With over 200,000 votes counted as part of our Bring It Back campaign, and thousands of comments on social media, we couldn’t be more excited to be giving back to our loyal guests, by reintroducing for a limited time The Eclair in restaurant later this year,” Tim Hortons’ President & CEO Marc Caira said in a press release.

“Thank you to our loyal guests for taking a trip back in time to see how our menu has evolved over the past 50 years, and for sharing how Tim Hortons has been a part of Canadians’ lives since 1964.”

I’m glad the Eclair is coming back, but I kind of liked the bread bowl concept too.I’m in Windsor, Ontario, and I ate mostly at TIM HORTON”S because of it.I’m happy to see the Eclair won,in my books it’s a toss up between them both.Tim Horton’s in any city or town,is a big hit! No matter what the food is ,it’s GREAT! THANKS!!

I’d rather they brought back decent coffee (the current stuff is dishwater) as well as “real” donuts – in the day each store made their own – today they just ship in frozen hockey pucks from a central factory. Needless to say the quality leaves a lot to be desired.

I’m happy about the Eclair making a comeback…..and my wife and I will indulge when it’s available, however, taking the “Dutchie” off the menu is totally unforgivable. I’ve been buying the Dutchie faithfully for about 30 years. The way I see it, Tim Hortons is no longer competing in the Donut Shop business but rather with the Fast Food big boys…and I’m afraid that will spell danger.
