PAUL BERTON: Who shot Vu Pham on a lonely road near Seaforth?
And why?
Was it a routine stop, a traffic violation or vehicle infraction, or was there something more?
What exactly happened on that country road?
What exactly tipped police off to the “situation,” as OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino described it Monday, before the shooting. And what exactly was the “situation?”
These are the questions we’ll try to answer today and in the coming days. Stand by for a media storm, culminating in the police funeral for Vu Pham, which ought to be the biggest thing that area has seen in years, decades maybe.
There are reports the suspect, 70, was from outside the area.
But they were saying precious little Monday during a media conference held before Vu Pham died.
That’s fair. Eyewitness reports (which you can read by clicking here)
of a shootout are likely accurate, but police are forever reluctant to announce “facts” before they have completed their investigation.
And as we all know, incidents can appear one way to one person, another way to another, and a completely different way to investigators. And the scrutiny of this case will be intense.
