About Bruce
Bruce Kirkland
Bruce Kirkland, past-president of the Toronto Film Critics Association, has been a film critic at The Toronto Sun since 1980. He now specializes in the home entertainment beat, as well as major film awards, including the Genies and the Oscars, and both the Cannes and Toronto film festivals.
On the festival side, he even launched his Sun Media career, days before he was officially on staff, by interviewing Bette Midler for The Divine Miss Mat the 1980 Toronto International Film Festival. Surviving that divine encounter has led to thousands of films and interviews since, with the Toronto festival a critical and even exhilarating part of each year’s responsibilities.
