About Jane
A former West Coaster, Jane Stevenson began her journalism career as a news reporter/news reader at CJOR Radio in Vancouver in 1984. After a brief jaunt to film school in London, England, she launched her entertainment journalism career by launching a weekly radio show visiting film sets called :Hollywood North. After four years she moved into TV, reporting and reading entertainment news for CKVU in Vancouver but after a year moved to the wire service doing radio/ print news and entertainment reporting for CP Vancouver from 1989-1991. At the end of that year, she was transferred to CP Toronto’s entertainment department as a copy editor/reporter where she covered music, film, TV and theatre including the Junos and the Toronto film festival. In 1995, she was hired by The Toronto Sun to be their pop music critic where she has been working ever since, covering the Grammys, the Junos, interviewing every conceivable rock/pop star from Mick Jagger to Keith Richards (and that was just her first week on the job!) to Ringo Starr (who gave her a hug she’ll never forget), plus reviewing every major concert tour and sometimes getting lucky and breaking major music news stories. She still remembers her first concert at age 12 — Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road trek — where she fainted due to the crush of fans but was revived before Elton sang his first note. Her passion for music remains strong, even if she hasn’t passed out at a concert since.
