New ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ trailer debuts

- February 7th, 2012

Just days after movie fans were blown away by the latest trailer for The Avengers, Marvel has upped the ante yet again with a two-minute plus ad for this summer’s Spider-Man reboot.

If you think it’s strange that the webslinger is getting another cinematic do-over five years after the last trilogy ended, join the club. Add in the fact that there’s a Broadway show in NYC (which is quite good by the way), and I understand if you’re less than excited for director Marc Webb’s  take on Spidey.

But if this latest snippet is any indication, The Amazing Spider-Man looks like it’s going to put the earlier trilogy to shame (remember what happened when Daniel Craig took over the Bond series?).

So, what’s new? Well, it’s another origin story. But before you start yawning, this time out it looks like audiences will be treated to a brand new tale. One that intertwines the rise of Peter Parker (played by Social Network actor Andrew Garfield) with one of his greatest foes, Curtis Connors (AKA The Lizard).

From all indications, it looks like the new film will be heavy on the aerial acrobatics, which is a good thing. There’s nothing I hate more than a superhero story that spends 90 minutes on set-up and 15 minutes on action.

And while Spider-Man has never been a tortured character like Batman, there is a hint of darkness lingering in the trailer that points back to Peter’s real parents.

I’m still not totally sold on Garfield playing Spidey or Lizard as the villain, but the trailer has got me thinking this could be the start of another great franchise.

Check it out below.

Honestly event after watching this I’m not at all excited to see it. On one hand it’s too soon for a reboot of what was rolling already with a great set of characters. But beyond that something just doesn’t feel right in this trailer. Maybe it’s actor selection, maybe it’s just overall feel, not sure. But I really have to give this a solid… meh. I think I’ll wait until DVD, and for me that’s saying a lot for a super-hero movie.
