The Dark Knight Rises trailer dissected

- December 20th, 2011

The trailer for The Dark Knight Rises has finally hit the web (a longer, 6-minute prologue is attached to the beginning of the latest Mission: Impossible film in IMAX theatres).

So, what do we know? It looks like Bruce Wayne is using a cane in at least two clips and Bane breaks a bunch of baddies out of what we can assume is Arkham Asylum. These could be references to Knightfall, a storyline featured in the early ’90s Batman comics in which Bane breaks Batman’s back (don’t worry, he heals) and … breaks prisoners out of Arkham.

What else. This film will boast Terminator-esque flying machines. It looks like there will be scenes that harken back to Batman Begins (if you cheat and go onto IMDB, you’ll see Josh Pence is playing a Young Ra’s Al Guhl – Batman’s early nemesis). There’s  a huge brawl outside a courthouse. Rumoured appearances from Scarecrow and Robin remain big question marks, as does speculation that the Joker was going to make a brief cameo (this was poopooed by director Christopher Nolan, but still, some people think it is a possibility, however far-fetched). Finally, the ‘Occupy’ protests may have an unlikely ally in Catwoman.

The film shot scenes at ‘Occupy’ in New York last October and the trailer below shows Catwoman warning Bruce to “batten down the hatches.”

It’s being billed as the end – although Warner Bros has said they will reboot the franchise à la The Amazing Spider-Man – but from what we can tell, The Dark Knight Rises looks like it’ll be wall-to-wall action and a triumphant finale for Nolan’s reimagining of Batman.

This movie looks absolutely amazing. Every time there are casting and preproduction rumours, I always have my doubts, but Christopher Nolan continues to knock these out of the park. Sad that this will be his last one.

The trailer looks fantastic! This Batman series has been amazing and I can’t wait to see it. It’s disappointing though that this series is ending as it was done very well.
