Iran, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany are gathering in Moscow later this month for the third round of the so-called P5+1 talks on Iran’s nuclear programs.
While negotiators left the first series of talks in Istanbul in April – after a 15 months hiatus – with a spring in their step, the last round in May nearly ended in collapse.
Canada has been on the sidelines of the talks but Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has never been shy about expressing Canada’s position on the matter.
This week, Baird met with representatives from the P5+1 in Ottawa to talk about the coming Moscow talks in a bid to get Canada a voice at the table. He also apparently is in regular contact with Catherine Ashton, the EU representative and main negotiator behind the talks. (And a baroness)
