Just heard the news that he’d passed away at 83. I got to know him a little bit in recent years; we had many a pleasant chat at Politics and the Pen in Ottawa. I did not agree with him very often. But he was a very charming man. RIP

RIP Laurier LaPierre
At best, a very stupid mistake
Mark Carney was wrong to let himself be courted by a political party for so long – and accepting the hospitality of politicians. The Bank is supposed to be independent and impartial, and it’s supposed to LOOK independent and impartial. What he did was wrong because it looked wrong. That is all.
UPDATE: This does not make me change my mind at all.
