For his public swearing-in today President Barack Obama used not one but two Bibles, formerly belonging to Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. Proving once again that many talk of Robin Hood who never pulled his bow.
Set aside any comparisons as to accomplishment. Think only how it sends shivers down the spine to read Lincoln’s majestic second inaugural speech or listen to King’s magnificent “I Have a Dream” speech. Obama’s pseudo-oratory produces no such effect. He musters no “With malice toward none, with charity for all”; no “one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood”; no glorious vision expressed in Biblical language with fitting humility.
Just focus-grouped sentiment, partisan proposals and vaingloriously contrived symbolism.
