Haha! Way to set PQ hair on fire! Justin Trudeau drops by to announce (story in French) that PQ would need 2/3 yes in a referendum to separate.

We all make mistakes. Especially when we’re young and stupid (and for the record, when I was young and stupid, I was very good at it). But I’ve never been arrested for drunk driving. Quebec’s education minister, and former Radio-Canada journalist Pierre Duchesne, was. Twice – when he was in his late 20s, in the early 1990s.
I don’t think anybody knew about it. Certainly I didn’t. This information came out in La Presse yesterday (story in French). Apparently the premier knew about it, and appointed him education minister anyway.
Call me old-fashioned, but I don’t think that’s acceptable. Once, I’m not saying – guy makes a public apology, regrets his actions and never does it again, maybe he deserves a second chance. But twice? He says it never happened more than twice, but won’t say whether he received a pardon for his crimes. What kind of example is he setting?
There he is (story in French), reminding Quebec that anglos have basic language rights in that province even where their numbers are small.
PQ minister Bernard Drainville thinks the Feds’ reform of EI is a conspiracy against Québec. (in French)
The idea, see, is for the Feds to make it so difficult to stay gainfully unemployed in remote Quebec to force those people to take jobs in Alberta’s oil patch.
That darn Stephen Harper. He’s all about the oil, he’s from Alberta, he likes oil, he obviously hates Quebec, well – if you mix all these things together, add a dash of paranoid delusion and stir until you are quite literally blue in the face, of
course you get this. IT IS ALL A PLOT TO KILL THE FRENCH CULTURE!!! WE MUST SECEDE NOW!!!
There is a small part of me deep down somewhere that feels sorry for Drainville and those who think (and I use the term loosely) like him.
She was recently interviewed by the BBC during her rather unsuccessful trip to Scotland (where the PM refused to let media take a picture of him and Marois together, ahem). The clip is here. I think it’s clear that she cannot express herself in English – at best she’s hard to follow, but she’s frequently impossible to understand. There it is for the whole world to see – a pure product of the worst isolationist strain of Quebec separatism. Unable to express herself in English (which is not, you know, some obscure language), unable to explain her project, and forever stuck in a very reductionist view of the world as one where the dream of independence is like a magic friend that will make everything better. As if an independent Quebec wouldn’t have to deal – in English – with other countries.
It’s sad, really.
