Another job you didn’t know existed

- October 1st, 2012

Just noticed a press release from last Wednesday that

The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, today announced that the Government of Canada has appointed Tom Jenkins as Special Adviser to the Minister to help improve Canada’s Defence Procurement process to better support the competitiveness of Canada’s defence-related industries.

I’m not sure what you have to do to land that sort of gig. But I am sure that if you want to increase the efficiency of government spending you avoid diverting tax dollars to extraneous posts you actually boast are intended to ensure you don’t get the best possible value for what you’re meant to be spending money on.

Remember: the point of defence spending is to equip our troops well as possible. It is not to promote economic development and oh look the political fortunes of the party in office.

Unless, of course, you are the party in office.
