This week’s under-reported story

- September 18th, 2012

Somewhat lost in the mayhem that some people (hello, President Obama!) are desperately trying to pin on some lousy movie nobody’s seen is this: U.S. troops in Afghanistan, along with other coalition forces, have seen a worrisome increase in the number of attacks from Afghan “partners” who turn their guns on them.

(CBS News) The strategy for getting U.S. forces out of Afghanistan depends on training Afghan soldiers and police to protect the country themselves, but on Monday the U.S. military suspended most joint field operations with Afghan forces because so many Americans are being killed by the men they are training.

Afghan government troops — our allies — have turned their guns on NATO forces 36 times this year, killing 51, most of them Americans. That is more attacks than the last two years combined.

The order effectively suspends “until further notice” most of the operations which U.S. and Afghan troops conduct side by side. At higher headquarters, Afghans and Americans will still work together, but in the field small unit operations putting Afghan soldiers alongside Americans — the guts of the U.S. strategy to turn the fighting over to Afghans — will be suspended unless an exception is granted by a commanding general.

FACT:The film was created by a self-proclaimed Islamophobe.

FACT: The film was released with the deliberate intent of inciting violence, and KNOWING that it would enrage the radical element of Islam.

FACT: Your argument that the film that “no-one has seen” is either misinformed, or disingenuous. In this day and age, it’s easy for videos to go viral.

The reaction from the unhinged fringe is ENTIRELY predictable, and any rational person would draw the connection. When put to the test of logic, the point you tried to make is laughable, but also predictable, given this paper’s propensity towards bashing the political left.

Really? Bill Maher’s “Religiousity” condemned Muslims…..were there riots? No–because Maher is an acceptable bigot (loved by the Left and a big supporter of Obama). Some Islamic leaders (al queda) used the movie as an excuse, but the crowds were also chanting “Obama/Osama” (and burning his picture) because the President was so willing to spike the football when Osama was killed. These are the same crowds that killed and rioted in 2006 when the Pope simply quoted a passage about Muslims at Regensburg University. The Islamic leaders will use any excuse to incite the people to kill–because their goal is to have to entire world live under Sharia law, or we should all die.

  3. Tiercellus says:

Laura V – Very often, religion is used by men of evil heart to justify evil things. The riots we are seeing is hooliganism (terrorism where loss of life/damage to proprty is concerned) but does not reflect the message of the faith of Islam. In the same way, Christians should not be painted with the same brush dripping with the evils of the crusades and the inquisition.

As for the comment you make regarding the Islamic leaders overarching goals bringing the whole world under sharia law, that’s just right-wing fear-mongering. But if you are going to continue down that road, it is no different than the forced imposition or capitalism or Christianity on the rest of the world just because we think “We know better”. Such is arrogance and little different than those who you accuse of the same.
