OTTAWA — The majority of the 5,800 refugee applications Canada received from the European Union in 2011 are considered bogus by the government, QMI Agency has learned. The majority of the applications came from Eastern Europe and roughly 90% of them are suspect, according to information obtained by QMI Agency.

The alleged bogus applications are a concern for the government because of costs related to responding to refugee applications. According to government estimates, it will cost taxpayers about $168 million to process the 5,800 European applications. The reason the bill could be so high is because refugee applicants are allowed to stay in Canada while they wait for their file to be reviewed by the Immigration and Refugee Board. During their stay, applicants can receive dental and health-care services, as well as employment insurance benefits. They are also given housing money.
The government is apparently looking for ways to stop this abuse as quickly as possible. May I suggest not handing over so much free money while claimants wait? Obviously we don’t want to let people starve, but between “not starving” and “getting on average $28,000 worth of services per person, whether you’re a real refugee or a bogus one”, there ought to be some room to cut, right?
I do not consider myself to be racist, but in general, I think the government needs to review EVERYTHING concerning immigration… enough GIVING money already!!! No wonder so many immigrants are abusing our system!!!
