Sun Media Reporter Jessica Murphy is travelling this week with Conservative Leader Stephen Harper. She sent this along from the road:
Conservative Leader Stephen Harper’s Saskatoon rally pulled in some 900 party faithful on an early Friday evening — not surprising considering the province is a Tory stronghold. But few rallies pull in a man willing to go as far as die-hard and life-long Tory voter Jim Neumeld in showing the party colours. He chose to dye the Conservative logo into his hair on the back of his head. He says it’s not permanent but would last until after May 2.
“With this election, we’re going all the way for this government,” he said with a laugh. “We’re going to support it in any way can.” Neumeld said the booming Saskatchewan economy has given a boost to the Conservatives in the prairie province. The Harper message that resonated most with him was on jobs and the fragile economic recovery. “Saskatchewan is really doing well,” he told me. “It’s a real change for us and we really are enjoying it. We’re a have province and not a have not province.”
Both Neumeld and Harper gave a nod to Saskatchewan’s Conservative Premier Brad Wall for his economic stewardship as well. The party holds all but one seat in the province with Regina’s Wascana riding held by veteran Liberal politician Ralph Goodale. Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff is making a Regina pit stop this weekend.
