Government and opposition are split on Chiquita’s bananas.
Status of Women Minister Rona Ambrose says since the fruit company has said it will avoid using fuel from Alberta’s oilsands “where possible,” she won’t buy its bananas.
Ambrose argues that Chiquita’s move forces a choice between oil from Canada, which respects women’s rights, and oil from Saudi Arabia, which doesn’t.
