Does the thought of Councillor Shelley Carroll running for mayor worry the Fords?

Carroll has said she’s still mulling a run for mayor. She came out Tuesday criticizing Mayor Rob Ford for “not doing his job” (story here).

Councillor Doug Ford said Wednesday he’s not worried about Carroll as a possible political foe to Mayor Ford in the 2014 election. But Councillor Ford quickly added he’ll never underestimate anyone’s odds at the ballot box.

“I never underestimate anyone and as far as I’m concerned anyone and everyone are going to beat us so we’re going to work hard,” Ford told reporters. “Because the biggest mistake that all the councillors did was underestimate Rob last time and we’ll never underestimate anyone.

“At any day in politics you could be beaten, no matter who you are.”

  1. John Alexopoulos says:

Mayor Ford is more active and visible to the public than most at City Hall and others across the country in similar positions. There is constant noise from all sides at City Hall and the media to almost create Ford over exposure.

So I do not understand Ms Carroll’s comments. If the Mayor is not fulfilling his duties, she needs to show me where he is failing his duties supported by facts and results created. And if there are no facts, she and others at City Hall need to spend 100% of their time on the real needs of the city: Quality services within required timelines and available cost effective resources.

  2. Wilma de Bruyn says:

Firstly, if Shelly Carroll decides to run for the “Mayors” job, I trust she will also put the hours in that
Rob Ford does, and that is including individual phone calls.
If she decides to run……..more power to her, but being on the outside looking in(the council chambers that is)as once being the elected “Mayor”……then perhaps she will take a different scope
on some of the time wasting nonsensical issues debated at council meetings.

But never under estimate politics…….as remember Mr. George Smitherman also thought he had the “cat in the bag” so to speak……..and we are still feeling the aftermath of his Ministerial Portfolio’s that he received payment for from the taxpayers for his salary while being employed.

Councillor’s also have to remember it’s not “your funds” your dealing with, it’s taxpayers, and some
individual’s work two or three jobs to keep a roof over their head and some never reach Councillor’s income level.

  3. Misguided politicos such as Ms Carroll, genuinely feel a debt to their community. However unlike the pragmatic and plain speaking brothers Ford, she intends to pay that debt with tax payers dollars.

  4. Chandra says:

What does Shelly Carrol have to offer besides being a twit and being very vain?

Sorry Shelly that is my impression of you.

I just don’t understand why people elect someone like you. You must be doing something?

Whatever it is you need to present to the public.

On the first day past the election she complained to the media about the missing coffee. Come on Shelly we are all mature adults who can walk over to the cafeteria and buy a cup just like the taxpayers! Don’t you think? We do need a caffeine kick to wake up at city hall, but I think councilors just try to wake up when they arrive so that they can wag their tongues! (That was said in tongue in cheek!)

What a hardship you had to endure? I empathize with you on that one!

It sounded so very shallow of you and might I add so many other councilors.

Now that there was this alleged surplus which really was a saving of expenditures you wanted to run and spend it. Money we don’t have. It is simply put shadow money! Let the taxpayers twist in the wind she says…

It seems that sense of responsibility escapes so many councilors that it is not funny.

City Hall needs serious credit counseling to be honest. Not sure what universe these politicians live in!

David Miller thought he could print money but he did….

    He taxed us to death!

  5. Chandra says:

Shelly as the former budget chief for Miller what is your opinion on this cost overrun at city hall’s newly minted boondoggle square?

25% overrun is to be expected? Oh! Says that other councilor, ” It is just like buying a wedding dress. You budgeted for 500 dollars but you liked something and paid 625 or whatever higher amount.”

This is not how you run government herr majesty Pam McConnell. Again God help us with how these guys think and what they do. No wonder we don’t have money and the debt is not getting paid down. Things are out of control.

Our government is a fashion show run by idiots who came from welfare families who never could deal with money other than something for splurging the minute you had any. Oh! Yes, if you ran out of money, you went running to the government to suck the tax payers teet.

It is like a wino who cannot help himself or herself and does not see that he or she has a problem!

  6. Selena Lim says:

Give the man a break, please! Rob Ford made a name for himself for his industriousness, commitment to his work and his constituents and for practising common sense fiscal responsibility. That is why he is the Mayor.

Let him do what he was elected to do – get the City of Toronto back on track with its budget, realize money into the coffers through cost savings and waste at City Hall. He can and will do it. We have to trust him to do it but we cannot expect him to do it in one day and all by himself. The other councillors who do not support Mayor Ford’s plan and vision for the City should come up with better plans and solutions if they wish to criticize and fight him at every step. They have to come with better cost cutting measures then.

  7. JANE DOE says:

I will vote for Rob Ford for Mayor…I will not vote for this qualified liberal whiner and complainers who does not but cause problems and never finds any solutions…except higher taxes…NO TO SHELLEY CARROLL

  8. Chandra says:

Shelley Carrol is whining about Rob Ford’s alleged lack of presence in many business type of meetings and events at city hall. It is important for the mayor to attend she says. At least he is not whining like you about the missing cup of coffee that you so sorely missed during the new session of the council! Sure that was an important part of your business and focus of your attention. Satisfy your oral needs!

Yes, Rob Ford delegates. That is one good way to develop other folks to do important and responsible work. That is management leadership. It also shows that he trusts his staff and has confidence in them other than that rogue councilor Karen Stinkz who is destroying the city with her inexperience and lack of expertise in transit and poor academic training which is not of any use for doing her job.

Despite Miller being attending all meetings he ran the worst administration of waste and mismanagement at city hall. His presence in these business events was worth nothing but creating boondoggles like the city hall square, and higher taxes for the tax payers in order to create more waste.

Come on Shelley stop being a professional whiner with nothing else constructive to do.

  9. Ward34 says:

There are plenty of left-wing morons and freeloaders in this city, proud owners of approximately half a brain of which 90% is disfunctional, who will vote for this woman.
It’s the same crowd that keeps on electing tax-and-spenders like McQuinty.
Yes, there’s always reason for concern.

  10. Nick says:

I strongly encourage her to run for Mayor. In fact, I’ll be the first to donate to her campaign.

Think about it, she runs for Mayor, thus vacating her seat on council for someone more competent (hopefully) and she runs against Mayor Ford and loses. It’s Win Win Win!

    Caroling for Carroll

    Carroll 2014

  11. louise says:

her track record as budget chief speaks for it self. My oh My that is scary. We all have to move to Mississauga because we won’t be able to aford to live in Toronto
