“I can’t support taxing the taxpayers.”

- Mayor Rob Ford on the OneCity transit plan when asked Monday at the Festival of Football kickoff what he’s going to do about it when it comes to council. His brother, Councillor Doug Ford, then abruptly cut off the political questions saying, “Let’s talk soccer.”

“I can’t support taxing the taxpayers.” Quote from Mayor Rob Ford. The Province stated “No”, it appears no reply from the Federal level to date. So is Councillor Glenn De Baeremaeker, TTC chair Karen Stintz go.ing to be “selling apple pie” to make up the cost of building “One City Transit” perhaps by a Pie Corporation being established?
It appears another years of “talk, talk, talk”…..and no shovels in the ground as Stintz has been proposing. So “Council” talks for another 2 years…..another election and the funds from the Province can evaporate and McGuinty designates the monies to “Ornge”, as who knows what is going to happen…..the clock is ticking and the chickens keep squawking with no shovels in the ground in sight. What a “move forward council”…not.

The problem with Stintz is that she went rogue on her assignment. Dropped the City’s Mayor who was duly elected by the people with a firm strong majority, out of her relationship and ran a mutiny to defy his will. He had run on a platform and instead of respecting it, he was excluded. I think that is wrong. She had no mandate to assume her defiant role never given to her by the will of the people. By her defiance she has defied the will of the people. That to me means she would have demonstrated integrity and trust, but she is continuing to run with the ball. It is shameful.

It is very sad that she has chosen this path. In doing so she has undermined the process and credibility of governance at city hall.

Time she stepped aside by tendering her resignation.

Worst part of it is that she has no expertise or experience in public transit.

I see rough seas ahead for the city.

The TTC and the council has no moral authority to impose taxes on the citizens of Toronto, without the consent of the duly elected Mayor who ultimately is the overseer of the city affairs.

Stintz is trying to do is to defy the process and understanding we have of politics.

About time the Mayor was given slightly more power than being a figure head with no authority to direct council’s agenda despite being elected directly by the will of the people. That is a shame. Otherwise let us appoint a figure head!

Either we revert to the party system then it is fair the majority rules or if we have one person directly elected by the citizens with a mandate to provide directions and do things then he should have authority to design the agenda.

Mayor of Toronto should have veto powers, which can only be overruled by 2/3 plus one, majority.

  4. JANE DOE says:

I was at the meeting in St. Pauls listening to Josh Matlow and Karen Stintz Promote LRTS…These incompetent councillors are Liberal Puppets……who don’t care about taxpayers….They just do not understand the reality of high costs in this city…We cannot afford voting these incompetent LOSERS to Toronto city hall who treat taxpayers like Garbage….You said in the meeting Karen there is no money for subways..YOU LIED TO THE TAXPAYERS…YOU ARE THE NOT THE MAYOR…GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE AND RESIGN AS TTC CHAIR… You are not a Transit Expert but an expert at causing anger and mistrust…You have succeeded in upseting property owners and business owners…who will ensure councillor clowns like you and Matlow are not re-elected

Wrong, Chandra. It’s the mayor’s job to build consensus and to LEAD council to make wise decisions. Rob Ford could not LEAD a pack of starving dogs to a giant bowl of the most delicious dog food ever, and that’s why he’s failing as mayor. He only knows how to shift blame, avoid facts, and constantly drone on about “taxpayers” and “subways”.

You speak a lot about how Rob Ford was “duly elected” but you seem to forget that every councillor was “duly elected” on the same day as well. Giving the mayor veto power is NOT the answer.

  6. Chandra says:

What can we the citizens do to get the TTC politicians back on track? Who knew Karen Stintz will become part of the problem? She is enforcing her agenda over the will of the people. She never was elected on the platform she is enforcing.

Whatever the shake down in the next election, I hope she does not return as the chair of the TTC ever.

We need a shake up in the city hall management. TTC I am sure is wasting lot of money which goes unnoticed based on reports one reads from time to time.

Politicians are too clueless to understand the situation.

I hope the Province steps in and rejigs the commission to include contiguous municipalities for planning a transportation system and financing.

Right now Queen’s Park is asleep at the switch being too busy with their own cost cutting attempts where they are having great difficulty.

    Governments are hard to control.

  7. Chandra says:

Some of the councilors in Rob Ford’s exec committee are backing away from tightening the fiscal controls on city spending. This goes to show you why in politics wasting money wins you friends but good management and prudence does not. That is why we have Greece and other countries like it.

I sense that people want whatever they can get from their government for free! So we waste money like crazy, but then when we need money to build transit there ain’t any. So they go out for more taxation. It is like legalized looting or vandalism by welfare bums who do not work hard and make some money!

This provincial nanny state is not helping one bit either. It is exacerbating the situation even further.

I say recover the cost of subway construction from the fare box if not in full then in part. They are always looking for someone to be the victim. Unions are the big winners in all of this money grabbing game. Our industry is leaving for cheap labor China. Our tax base keeps shrinking. Just think of it. We pay for movies, restaurants, and other services why not TTC?

I accuse Karen Stintz of sleeping at the switch and doing nothing to control costs of running the TTC. They can easily save money there, which can be used to construct new subway lines. But who is going to disturb the sleeping management in the TTC? But then what does Stintz know of management? Zilch! Nada!

Why the heck they don’t hire a management consultant and clean out that organization? Last time they were going to spend 100 million on those TTC headquarters with a museum! What a vain set of nit wits and dim wits in management! That is one time I rather see money in the pockets of needy welfare bums than TTC brass who are in fact the regal welfare bums wasting our money with impunity.

    Hello Karen?

    She is worshiping them!

Man o man our governments are going to bankrupt us!

    Sheriff Ford! You stand alone!

Please gather the troops if you can for the next election.
