Mayor Rob Ford thinks he’s awesome

Mayor Rob Ford and Speaker Frances Nunziata

Mayor Rob Ford thinks he’s awesome.

That was pretty clear from his interview Wednesday with Matt Galloway on CBC’s Metro Morning.

Ford goes on Metro Morning about as often as some comets pass by Earth so the chat was must listen radio for anyone following Toronto politics. Galloway raised some of the follies that have dogged Ford over the last few months and asked if he would do anything differently.

“Obviously, you can see we’re turning the ship around at the city,” Ford said.

“I think people understand a lot of those issues were political that I was dealing with. Let’s call a spade a spade here, the NDP at council want to continue spending and the Liberals and Conservatives don’t.”

Ford went on to claim the conflict of interest case against him – which a judge has yet to rule on – was “political.”

“That was strictly political,” he said. “I can’t help it if the left-wing or the NDP, some councillors come after me and certain individuals in society. Obviously, if I get taken to court on a conflict of interest charge of helping children that’s a political issue.”

Then Ford thumped his chest on his record.

“I believe I’m doing a very good job,” he said. “I worked all summer … I’ve been returning calls, doing city business.”

“If people disagree with my approach, I’d be more than happy to talk to them. I’d like to know what I’m doing wrong but I believe, and according to a lot of people, I’m doing a good job.”
