Fair warning Edmonton, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford wants the fountain outside your City Hall.

Just back from a vacation in Alberta, Ford applauded the “really unique” wading pool/rink he saw outside Edmonton City Hall while slamming the ongoing renovation of Nathan Phillips Square outside Toronto City Hall.

“They have a pool or a rink like ours but they utilize it in the summer and they have a swimming pool,” Ford said. “The sprinklers are going non-stop and the kids are running around the sprinklers which I thought was an absolutely phenomenal idea which I want to look into.

“I talked to (Edmonton Mayor Stephen Mandel) and he said it’s not very much (money). There is a couple of pumps in the water that shoot the water out so I’m going to look into that.”

While he was looking at the Edmonton fountain last week, Ford mentioned he liked it to the Edmonton Sun’s David Bloom.

The reflecting pool in Nathan Phillips Square acts as an ice rink in the winter but wading is prohibited.

City of Toronto spokesman Kazia Fraser said a wading pool isn’t in the plans for the square’s $51.5 million facelift.

“It is not in the current scope, however, we do have a nine-jet water fountain feature and the reflecting pool will be ready for the next summer season,” she said.
