Mayor Rob Ford runs past reporters as he leaves court Wednesday (Dave Abel/Toronto Sun)

It’s not every day the mayor of Canada’s largest city takes the stand and testifies in open court (story here). Here’s a rundown of some of the quotable quotes from Mayor Rob Ford’s testimony on Wednesday:

“We deal with millions of dollars and I watch the money,” Mayor Rob Ford told the court.

“I’m sure you watch the money,” Clayton Ruby responded.

At one point Ruby asked Ford if he had ever read the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act.

“I’ve never read that before,” Ford said.

“You have to have read it,” Ruby said, adding they read it at Ford’s deposition in June.

“You read it to me, but I haven’t read it,” Ford said.

Ruby asked Ford if he would agree he had a “special responsibility” to lead in the area of conflict of interest legislation. Ford disagreed.

“I just get one vote, I’m just one member of council,” the mayor said. “I don’t consider myself special.”
Ford added that he can’t be responsible for 44 members of council.

“He disagrees with the integrity commissioner, so what?” Ford’s lawyer Alan Lenczner objecting to one of Ruby’s questions.

“Sir, with all due respect I don’t see what page we’re on,” Ford to Ruby when during his testimony they literally were not on the same page.

After listing a number of integrity commissioner reports critical of Ford, Ruby asks if they bother him.

“Do you find it embarrassing to have all these reports criticizing you?” Ruby asked.

“I’m not embarrassed about my job or what I (do), my political career I think I’ve done very well at it,” Ford responded.
“I don’t believe I had a conflict of interest on that day,” Ford to court on the Feb. 7 council meeting.

“In my opinion, municipal politics has hit an all-time low. They are obviously upset with the election results,” Councillor Doug Ford on AM640’s Arlene Bynon Show after Wednesday’s hearing

  1. Wilma says:

a.) Was this a set up for Ford? b.) Is Smitherman just an extremely poor looser? c. Is a certain “Law Firm” disappointed they did not receive the deal from Dr. Mazza because of this? d.) Is McGuilty, sorry, McGuinty a disignated lawyer? Does McGuinty and/or the Ontario Bar Association have speaker’s from Political government officials? e.) How many lawyer’s that were called to the “Bar” and are now in “pin striped suits” return to the “Bar” where they drink liquids? f.)The former
Attorney General was a prime example.

If the “e Health” scandal never returned any monies to the taxpayer’s of Ontario, the “Orange Scandal” does not return the money to the “taxpayer’s” of Ontario, that leaves me to think that the 30million dollar heist of “Maple Syrup” should not be returned as well as ” THE ORNGE SCANDAL” effects every “taxpaying citizen” in this province.(G & M, Aug.30.2012)
Speaking of Maple Syrup, in the U S of A, G & M dated Oct.27.2011 selling imitation Maple Syrup, and they receive 5 year sentence for doing so?

One really begins to wonder about the “Court of Law”?
