I asked Bunny Van Sciver what she thought of Ontario’s….well lets be charitable and call it an “over reaction” to the bit of winter we got this week. You remember that, right? You know when winter was treated as all of the Biblical plagues hitting at once while heralded by the cast of Glee? As always, she helps put things in perspective for those who who are rationally challenged:

As an avid political watcher, I’m often staggered by the degree of burning stupid that passes for serious political discourse. But of all the things that pass the lips of politicians, nothing qualifies as the burning stupid quiet like those who like to use the H-word.
You know you’ve heard it, and not just from that insipid Glenn Beck. Someone on the other side of a debate says or does something a politician doesn’t like and sure of enough, the comparisons to Hitler are made. It’s Godwin’s Law in action, which states: “”As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.” This applies, more frequently these days, to political discussions online or live in the flesh.
Often, it’s those on the “right” who like use Hitler as the yard stick to measure everything they don’t like, but lets face it, its common on the “left” too (whatever left and right are actually supposed to mean anymore.)
When I vented about the ridiculous comparison to Hitler or the Nazis, Bunny as always produced a useful remedy, citing a rule she used a message board moderator. It should be applied to politics year round. So, without further ado I give this week’s WWBS:
“Once you bring up Hitler or the Nazis, you lose. Thanks for playing though, Buh-bye.”
WWBS stands for “What Would Bunny Say?”
Bunny is my friend Sharis from the good ole’ USA. You might remember the USA from such films as “Politics That Make No Sense to Canadians”, “The land where all the best movies and TV shows come from,” and “Why do they get Hulu and we don’t?”
All things considered, Sharis is pretty awesome. She has a great family and from what I am able to gather a small legion of rabbits that I suspect are being trained to take over the world. She is also a crack shot, so be nice. Above all else she is a fount of wisdom. Like Shakespeare. Or the Simpsons. So every once and while, we at the Grant Rant shall bow and ask ourselves WWBS?
In response to news that a scholar has decided to edit out offensive words from the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a move I think qualifies as the stupid that burns, Bunny says: “You can’t censor stupid. You can bash its head it with a Louisville Slugger to stop the burning sensation though. “
So endeth today’s lesson.
