As an avid political watcher, I’m often staggered by the degree of burning stupid that passes for serious political discourse. But of all the things that pass the lips of politicians, nothing qualifies as the burning stupid quiet like those who like to use the H-word.

Hitler.

You know you’ve heard it, and not just from that insipid Glenn Beck. Someone on the other side of a debate says or does something a politician doesn’t like and sure of enough, the comparisons to Hitler are made. It’s Godwin’s Law in action, which states: “”As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.” This applies, more frequently these days, to political discussions online or live in the flesh.

Often, it’s those on the “right” who like use Hitler as the yard stick to measure everything they don’t like, but lets face it, its common on the “left” too (whatever left and right are actually supposed to mean anymore.)

When I vented about the ridiculous comparison to Hitler or the Nazis, Bunny as always produced a useful remedy, citing a rule she used a message board moderator. It should be applied to politics year round. So, without further ado  I give this week’s WWBS:

“Once you bring up Hitler or the Nazis, you lose. Thanks for playing though, Buh-bye.”
