Jets and Sens look to fight through fatigue

- March 17th, 2013

OTTAWA — It will be a battle of will for the Winnipeg Jets and Ottawa Senators on Sunday afternoon, as both teams are playing a day after posting victories that required extra time.

The Jets are looking to follow up a 5-4 shootout victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs, while the Sens posted a 4-3 overtime triumph on the road against the Buffalo Sabres.

Both clubs have battled significant injuries throughout the campaign and still found a way to get the job done.

“That’s been the key for us, throughout our lineup, we’ve been getting production in all sorts of different areas,” said Jets captain Andrew Ladd. “To be a successful team in this league, just like at the Ottawa Senators, it seems like they have different guys stepping up each and every night. That’s led to a lot of success.”

After Dustin Byfuglien played 31 minutes on Saturday, don’t be surprised to see Zach Bogosian pick up a bit of the slack, since he’ll be rested after playing a season-low 19 minutes and change, mostly because of the 17-plus minutes he served in the box after getting an instigating minor, fighting major and 10-minute misconduct.

Jets head coach Claude Noel also reiterated a stance from earlier this week, that he’d like to get his fourth line a little more ice time than they’ve received lately. Noel thought that might come after building a 4-1 lead on Saturday, but in the blink of an eye, the Leafs scored twice in the final two minutes of the second period and it was mostly back to a three-line game.

The Jets are expected to dress the same lineup, which means forward Alex Burmistrov will sit a fourth consecutive game and defenceman Paul Postma is out for a fifth consecutive game.

Defenceman Toby Enstrom (shoulder) remains “a ways away” and goalie Al Montoya (lower-body) is progressing but the Jets will keep him out again for precautionary reasons.
