There’s been a lot of talk the past few days and it’s time to see how the Winnipeg Jets react to the latest bout of adversity.
That was the topic of the day I dealt with in my pre-game web story.
With five losses during the past seven games, the Jets have fallen to 4-5 and are facing a Washington Capitals club that has owned them of late.
Few Jets fans have forgotten the March sweep — to the tune of a two-game combined total of 10-1 — the Caps earned to get themselves back into the Southeast Division playoff picture and eventually saw them leapfrog the Jets into first place.
The Caps (3-5) aren’t flying on all cylinders but after a slow start, they’ve won two of their past three and their recent success against the Jets suggest they’ll be ready to go this evening.
At least that was the sense I got from speaking to a few Caps players after the morning skate.
Accountability was a big buzzword for the Jets during the past two days and there was a lot of talk about looking in the mirror and having individuals holding themselves accountable before challenging teammates to do the same.
Stop me if you’ve heard this before but as Blake Wheeler told me yesterday, what the players say in the paper and amongst themselves is not what matters, it’s how they respond to the challenge to be better. Words are empty right now.
Good point by Wheeler. Lets see how much fire the Jets play with this evening against a former rival.
While it looked like Eric Tangradi might draw back in on Monday, he was the last player off and did some extra conditioning so he might skip a third consecutive game as a healthy scratch. Won’t know for sure until the warm-up though. Will update afterward.
John Erskine is in for Alex Urbom on D for the Caps.
Don’t forget I make my TSN Jets debut on the pre-game show In the Box segment somewhere between 640 and 650 tonight.
