So what’s the deal with Chi Running?
I’d never heard of it before recently receiving an email containing the results of a 2011 satisfaction survey on the “natural running technique.”
But according to the survey — which was notably conducted by ChiLiving Inc., and Chi Running practitioner Dr. Mark Cucuzzella (hmmn, not quite impartial participants; I’m just saying), in conjunction with West Virginia University — Chi Running “has helped hundreds of thousands of runners run faster, easier and injury-free and has transformed running into a mindful fitness program.”
Here are some highlights from the survey, which polled more than 3,000 respondents:
• 92% felt that Chi Running and Chi Walking have played a role in preventing running/walking injuries.
• 97% said they were probably/definitely able to change their running mechanics with Chi Running/Chi Walking.
• 69% felt they were a heel striker before practicing Chi Running & 84% felt they were not after practicing Chi Running.
• 96% felt Chi Running has helped them.
• 74% felt their speed improved with Chi Running.
And here’s a further explanation on the technique that accompanied the survey results:
Chi Running and Chi Walking make fitness possible for people who have stopped running or walking because of injury, are intimidated by potential pain, want a competitive edge or seek a spiritual component in their exercise program.
Danny and Katherine Dreyer, along with over 140 certified instructors, teach these trademarked methods to participants worldwide. Constant effort is made to continue to improve the efficacy of teaching the technique and the programs that are offered.
Though the 2008 survey, conducted by the same group, showed a high level of satisfaction with the Chi Running & Chi Walking technique, the 2011 results show a favorable improvement as represented by client feedback.
