If the slot machine meal planner doesn’t make your head spin, then there are plenty of other features in SELF Magazine’s new iPad app that will.

There are the stop-motion exercise moves.

And don’t forget to try the drag-and-drop snacks to literally play with your food.

I’m also told that with the new SELF app you can “tweet with Kim Kardashian, find inner peace during guided self-meditation, and everything in between.”

Wowzers!

Here’s the press release:

SELF MAGAZINE INTRODUCES DIGITAL APP
FOR iPAD

Tap Into Your Best Self With Condé Nast Brand’s New Women’s Lifestyle App

NEW YORK, NY — SELF, the trusted authority helping 6.6 million magazine readers achieve total well-being, announces the launch of the SELF Magazine App, available at the App Store exclusively for iPad. The first digital edition is SELF’s April issue, featuring exclusive videos, interviews, fitness and weight loss plans, recipes and more to help our digital users achieve their personal goals to be their “best self.”

Users can interact with fun and instructive graphics, slide shows of fitness moves, video, audio and expert tips about beauty, fashion, fitness, nutrition, health and overall happiness. Monthly digital editions feature virtual personal training and weight loss programs, including the new SELF Challenge: Drop 10.

Most useful are the follow-along fitness moves and a library of healthful recipes, as well as beauty how-to videos, fashion styling advice, exclusive celebrity interviews and videos, and live Tweets, workout playlists and more.

The most up-to-date feature: a live newsfeed that allows the editors to update readers daily on the latest and most important health news flash of the day and how to use it to incorporate healthy decisions into their life.

The SELF Magazine App, featuring preview content, is available for free from the App Store on iPad.

“The new app enhances the depth and breadth of SELF’s core content offerings with innovative and exciting interactive features,” says SELF Editor-in-Chief Lucy Danziger. “Each monthly digital edition going forward will enable women to engage more deeply in their favorite SELF content with unique, sophisticated and joyful tools to inspire her to tap into her best self.”

Features included each month:

• SELF’s Personal Trainer: Original easy-to-follow workouts with stop-motion animation that helps users learn precisely how to perform each exercise move.

• “Be SELFy Now” live-feed news ticker tape refreshed daily, with news updates on late-breaking healthy-living advice and events happening that day across the country.

• Exclusive recipes, including a tap function to gray out completed steps so you know where you left off when preparing the meal, making healthful eating even easier.

• Live in-app Twitter feeds for celebrity features and fitness-healthy eating programs such as the SELF Drop 10 Challenge and Reach Your Goal. First up: Kim Kardashian’s healthy-body secrets.

• Exclusive iPad-only content that offers artist info and links for click-to-buy from the iTunes store for songs that are featured throughout the issue.

April digital edition iPad exclusives:

• Kim Kardashian boxing video: April’s cover star in a video clip featured in limited release as a one-week iPad exclusive.

• Live in-app Twitter feed from April cover star Kim Kardashian.

• “Build a Perfect Day” slot-machine style feature to mix and match healthy meals each day from the SELF Drop 10 Challenge meal plan.

• “Happy Plate” drag-and-drop gamelike experience, offering a variety of snack options, that lets you know when you have reached your calorie goals for the week.

• SELF Drop 10 Challenge Pledge Page, with tools for participants to interact with other dieters and users via Twitter feeds.

• Behind-the-scenes fashion video with music from The Submarines.

• Voice-guided meditation audio sample from the Simply Being app included in a major feature about how technology can improve your health and well-being.

Advertising partners for the launch include Reebok, Aveeno and Tyson.

“The launch of the digital App has allowed SELF to provide multiplatform activations for Reebok, Aveeno and Tyson in the launch issue,” says Laura McEwen, SELF vice president and publisher. “Our client partners are eager to take advantage of digital platforms that reach SELF’s affluent and engaged consumers. In fact, the response to the new App is helping to boost print pages and digital revenue.”

The SELF Magazine App and April digital edition were developed and built in-house by the SELF editorial department.
