Trim Down After Holiday Weight Gain

DON’T PACK ON THE POUNDS, BURN THEM OFF!

Toronto (Dec. 27, 2012) — Did you overindulge just a wee bit this holiday season? Maybe there was no need to take second (or third!) servings, but rather than fret with a full stomach, put a plan into action to start shedding the few pounds that may have been packed on!

“According to various pieces of research, the average adult tends to gain a few pounds over the holiday season,” says Sammie Kennedy, one of North America’s top trainers and also the CEO and creator of both Booty Camp Fitness and Femme Fitale. “That may not sound like a lot but year after year those pounds add up because statistically people do not lose this weight after the season. Taking immediate action to lose that excess weight is not only fantastic for your figure, but healthy for your body, too.”

Sammie shares her top five tips on how to lose weight after the holidays:

1.  Start a healthy habit - The longer you wait after the holidays to develop a plan to get moving the more likely that weight is going to stick around. Make a plan or find a program with a specific schedule that will keep you on track for at least four weeks to develop a healthy new exercising habit.

2.  Sweet success - Making a small change like swapping out refined sugar for a natural and beneficial sweetener like honey or stevia will help to lighten the load on your organs and assist your body in flushing out fat rather than storing more.

3.  Pick a new favourite colour - Green that is, adding a variety of greens and fresh veggies to your meals will help to flood your system with vitamins and minerals essential for maximum performance and weight loss. It will also help curb cravings. The high fibre will keep you full, and a nourished body is less likely to crave junk food.

4.  Fatten down - Not all fats are bad fats and there are essential fatty acids that help our body to release the bad fats. Make a switch from your canola oil to some healthier alternatives that support heart health and weight loss like the fats found in EVOO, almonds, and fish. Cooking with high heat? Choose a healthier saturated fat alternative that won’t go bad on the burner like coconut oil.

5.  Get wet – Well, not literally, but drink loads of water. Water will help keep your energy high, systems working properly and flush out excess bloat from all that indulgence while supporting weight loss.

Today was the first day since Thanksgiving that I swapped chocolate for fruit, and I feel amazing! Normally I’m exhausted by the time I am done with work, but when I walked outside of my job at one of DISH’s call centers today, I felt great. Tomorrow I’m so excited to add some green to all my meals, drink my fill of water, and start doing some of the exercise videos I found on DISH Online. They have such a variety, including a section of Gaiam yoga, Pilates, and cardio that will keep me busy well into the New Year. Thanks for the tips; I can’t wait to report back with success!
