Zig-zagging with my new Reebok ZigTech shoes

Check ‘em out!

No, not my Oilers socks.

And no, not my shapely lower calves. Although they are sublime.

Check out my brand new Reebok ZigTech runners!

They’re billed as “the energy drink for your feet.”

Why? Glad you asked.

From what I’ve been told, the outsole’s zig-zag shape “absorbs the impact of heel strike … then sends a wave of energy along the length of the shoe, propelling you forward, while reducing wear and tear by up to 20% on key leg muscles.”

Whoa!

Now, for anyone unlucky enough to have seen my ugly feet, you know they need a lot more than an “energy drink.”

But hey, the ZigTech technology is pretty darn cool.

I’ll be writing more about it in the near future — after I take off the tag and go for a spin.

Until then, check out the following press release from Reebok:

Reebok introduces new ZigTech apparel for men

Innovative apparel collection featuring CelliantTM technology creates increase in oxygen levels

Toronto, ON – Based on the success of ZigTech footwear, Reebok has extended the men’s line with ZigTech apparel. Engineered with Celliant™ fibres, ZigTech apparel creates an increase in oxygen levels by an average of seven per cent, giving athletes more energy for sport and life. The collection includes pants ($79.99), shorts ($44.99), jackets ($79.99) and T-shirts ($34.99) in a Premier running range and ZigTech training range collection.

Celliant technology uses specially formulated technical performance fibres that are woven into fabrics. They are created using a collection of optically responsive natural minerals that are infused into polyester fibres. Products containing Celliant have been clinically proven to enhance oxygen levels in the body.

The great thing about ZigTech apparel is that while the technology is highly technical, the consumer benefit is what every athlete needs – more oxygen,” said Bill McInnis, who heads up Reebok’s Advanced Concepts team, which created ZigTech.

Reebok’s ZigTech apparel and footwear collections are worn by some of the best athletes in the world.  Athletes who wear ZigTech to train include NHL stars Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin, NFL greats Peyton Manning, Chad Ochocinco and DeMarcus Ware, NBA rookie sensation John Wall, MLB phenomenons Tim Lincecum and David Ortiz, soccer standout Thierry Henry, champion F1 driver Lewis Hamilton and many more.

Whether we’re talking about footwear or apparel, ZigTech is all about energy,” said Chris Froio, head of Reebok’s Men’s Strategic Business Unit. “ZigTech footwear and apparel are designed to help athletes get the most out of their workouts, and the bold designs and colours let people know you’re serious about your training.”

Reebok’s ZigTech apparel is effective, versatile and durable, perfect for running or training activities in all environments and weather. ZigTech apparel can be layered in cooler weather without diminishing the effectiveness of Celliant fibres, since it does not have to be next to the skin in order to work. As ZigTech apparel is a fibre technology, it cannot be washed out and will not wear out, lasting for the full life of the garment.

The new ZigTech Apparel collection is available at select Sport Chek locations across Canada.
