Tips for a rockin’ body this summer

- July 2nd, 2011

Rock your body this summer with the following tips from Kelly Dooley, the designer of BodyRock Sport:

• Avoid simple carbohydrates and high starch foods like pasta, white breads, and sweets. Replace them with salads, sweet potatoes, and other vegetables.

• Drink plenty of water and avoid high-calorie drinks, for example, soda, juices, and coffee drinks.

Kelly_1• Avoid drinks with artificial sugars, such as diet drinks and crystal light. To spice up plain water, add lemon, grapefruit, lime or orange.

• Aim for the daily recommended five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables every day.

• Skip the late-night snacks. This will only lead to poor food choices and more calories.

• Avoid eating due to stress, or out of boredom.

• If you love sweets and truly can’t live without them, fit a trip or two to your favorite bakery or ice cream shop into your weekly diet. With these desserts out of the house, you will be able to treat yourself, without over-indulging.

• Try eating more frequent, small healthy meals about every three to four hours.

• Include protein in every meal, and decrease your intake of fat and carbohydrates.

• Add spices to your food for a flavor boost that will help you feel satisfied.

Blinged-out sports bra: girly-sweet meets steel

- April 30th, 2010

(Note: Nicole Bergot, the Edmonton Sun’s uber-fit city editor writes today’s post. Bergot, a marathoner and up-and-coming triathlete who likes to pump iron, reviews a sizzling BodyRock Sport top.)

Nicole_gym outfit

Bergot's rating: three gold studs out of five

Warning gals: this bra delivers one hell of a workout.

The blinged-out black BodyRock Sport top offers so much sizzle, the golden zipper front may sear a strip of fire up your chest.

That was the case for me, but only during standing presses.

And I’m not complaining – I like the burn!

This particular model – the Andrea – is made for mid- to high-impact workouts.

I tested its mettle through bench presses, kettlebell lunges, pullups ‘n dips, finishing off with push ups and a few K.

It’s hot to look at, supportive through lifts and speed, with no threat of chaffing.

The pretty studded racerback could have just a tad more spandex give.

I prefer a second-skin feel and this little number drifted more towards armour on my frame.

Designed by California-born Kelly Dooley and manufactured in New York, the infusion of girly-sweet and steel gets three gold studs out of five.

Rock your body, other gym patrons with BodyRock Sport

- April 7th, 2010

image002A California journalist calls them “blinged-out sports bras.”

These definitely aren’t your mother’s conservative workout tops.

Kelly Dooley’s BodyRock Sport collection, launched in March 2009, is all about staying stylish and fashionable in the gym.

“The colorful and bejeweled line of sports bras feature unique fabrics and distinctive embellishments with smart details such as built-in iPod pockets, zippered compartments, and tagless labels for extra comfort,” reads a just-issued press release.

“All of the garments are made using Swarovski crystals or stud detailing, produced with only the highest quality spandex and nylon, and are manufactured in New York City.”

Dooley, a California-born designer, would cringe if she knew I used to wear Zubaz pants – and not just to the gym. A felonious fashion faux pas, to say the least.

But in my defence, Jane Fonda’s leg warmers and bodysuits weren’t much better.
