%31_multipart%3F2_image001It’s been dubbed as the world’s first hybrid scooter.

And it’s now on the market.

The Zike — affectionately known as the Zike Bike — apparently received much acclaim at the 2011 Toy Fair in NYC earlier this year.

The cute freestyle scooter, featured last week on Extra with Mario Lopez and last month on The View, is billed as an “innovative combination of a scooter, bicycle and stair-stepper.”

Zike Launches Industry’s First Hybrid Scooter

Next generation of Human Powered Vehicles (HPV) now available

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Zike, the world’s first hybrid scooter, is now available for purchase following an impressive introduction at the 2011 Toy Fair in New York City held earlier this year. Zike is a revolutionary company with a passion for creating the next generation of human powered vehicles (HPV) for all ages. Zike’s new freestyle scooters are an innovative combination of a scooter, bicycle and stair-stepper – providing an experience unlike any other.

In an effort to combat the childhood obesity epidemic in the United States, inventor and Zike founder Nathan Scolari spent years researching, designing and refining the development of a scooter geared for children that would enable them to exercise in a fun way.

The Zike is available for purchase exclusively online at www.zike.net.

During its initial product launch, Zike will introduce four models to the marketplace:

• Flyby – After graduating from the Hotshot, the Flyby is geared for children ages 8 – 12 (120 lb. weight limit). This model has two chains which allows for faster speeds and increased agility. It’s built with 9″ front and rear tires and rear hand brakes. Retail price is $219.

• Slingshot – Geared for children ages 10 and up (150 lb. weight limit), this remarkably nimble scooter offers the handling of a freestyle hybrid with the speed of a BMX bike. The Slingshot has 10″ front and rear tires, as well as front and rear disc brakes. Retail price is $329.

• Saber – The Saber is a double bottom bracket BMX style 7-speed stepper that is geared for everyone ages 12 and up (200 lb. weight limit). It combines bursts of speed with incredible agility, offering a superior lower body workout and unparalleled fitness fun. The Saber has a 20″ front tire and a 16″ rear tire and front and rear V-brakes. Retail price is $399.

Mainstream bicycles have remained virtually unchanged for more than 100 years. Zike has pioneered a radical rethink with 34 patents pending on its new products. From meeting the needs of green initiatives to fighting childhood obesity, Zike’s vision is leading the way in showing the world a whole new generation of human powered vehicles.

“Zike is dedicated to excellence and committed to providing well-built, quality products,” said Scolari. “Our goal is to make a positive difference in people’s lives by combining fun and fitness with our environmentally-friendly transportation. Positive response from people, when they first ride a Zike, has been overwhelming and I’m excited that the product is now for the first time available here in the United States.”

All Zikes are constructed from sturdy metal and aluminum and stand approximately 48” high.
