Pilates-ballet-cardio fusion new kid on hybrid block

- October 20th, 2011

It all started with Tae Bo — Billy Blanks’ cardio-style melding of taekwondo and boxing, which went mainstream in the late 1990s.

More than a decade later, we’ve got piloxing (Pilates and boxing), YAS (yoga and spinning) and a host of other hybrid workouts.

One of the newest additions to the growing hybrid trend is Xtend Barre — a fat-blasting fusion of Pilates, ballet and cardio.

After attracting the likes of Hollywood hard bodies such as Natalie Portman, Drew Barrymore, Madonna, Kelly Ripa and more, barre workouts have catapulted into “first position” as the most talked about fitness method to provide a long and lean physique.

Xtend Barre takes barre techniques ONE STEP FURTHER by adding CARDIO principles to each session, for the most effective full-body, combination barre workout available.

Xtend_Lean & Chiseled_product-1Created by professional dancer, choreographer and classical Pilates instructor Andrea Rogers, Xtend Barre has quickly expanded to more than 70 locations since her first class over three years ago. Most recently, studios have opened in Australia, Dubai, Paris, London, Brazil, Canada, Abu Dhabi and more, making it the up and coming, international workout sensation. Xtend Barre uses the traditional ballet barre, small hand weights and floor work to provide a full-body workout that can burn up to 500 calories per session.

Combining the amazing results of dance with the principles of strength and safety in Pilates, Xtend Barre’s tag line is: “If Pilates sculpts your body, Xtend Barre® chisels it.”

“As a dancer all my life, I loved traditional Pilates — and although barre classes were great, I still missed the cardio element,” says founder, Andrea Rogers. “I began implementing some dance moves into sessions for my private Pilates clients, and it was an instant hit. As more people requested it, I carefully developed a curriculum, and just two weeks after launching, we had a waiting list for our classes. I knew I was on to something.”
