‘Jump start’ true health and fitness

- October 16th, 2013

So you wanna get fit?

No, like really fit. Not on a superficial check-out-my-abs level. Deeper than that. Deep-inside-your-bones fit.

And healthy, too. Like healthy at the cellular level. Now that’s true health and fitness.

Well, if you’re in the Sherwood Park area, you’re in luck.

The good folks at the Blood Sugar Stabilization Clinic have teamed up with Snap Fitness Sherwood Park to offer “28 Day Jump Start Program: The Whole Body Experience.”

Booster Juice opens in Mexico

- October 22nd, 2010

image[13]Boosted by the continuing worldwide health-food trend, Booster Juice has expanded into Mexico.

The Edmonton-based juice bar and smoothie chain has opened two Mexican stores — in Mexico City and Monterrey.

Booster Juice boss Dale Wishewan says the plan is to have 15 stores in Mexico by the end of 2011.

“It is a great feeling to be going around the world and seeing the Booster Juice cups and people enjoying the product. It’s a bit surreal to have locations in India, Holland, the Middle East, and now Mexico,” Wishewan said in a press release. “To have gone from a single store opening in Sherwood Park in the fall of 1999 to an international company in only 11 years is a big achievement for a Canadian company.”

GoodLife’s expansion continues with Sherwood Park

- July 13th, 2010

image002Western Canada’s largest fitness chain is slated to open a second location in the Edmonton area.

Residents in and around Sherwood Park, just east of Aberta’s capital, soon will have a chance to live the “GoodLife.” A GoodLife Fitness facility is planned for Sherwood Park Mall, at 2020 Sherwood Dr., in the spring of 2011.

GoodLife Fitness, with more than 275 locations across Canada, arrived in Edmonton this past March with the opening of a southside facility.

I’ve been told that there are several more GoodLife facilities planned for Edmonton and area.

club_fitThis Edmonton explosion, GoodLife sources say, follows the relatively recent sale of Club Fit, which merged with World Health Club to become World Health. Got that?

Hardy

Patchell-Evans

Former Club Fit owner David Hardy — extremely well-respected throughout the fitness industry — is a friend of GoodLife CEO and founder David (Patch) Patchell-Evans — who is extremely well-respected himself.

As the story goes, Patch purposely stayed out of Hardy’s territory as a favour to his friend.

However, when Hardy sold his majority stake in Edmonton-based Club Fit to Calgary-based International Fitness Holdings, well, all bets were off. And now GoodLife is moving in.

It’s shaping up to be an interesting battle between gym chains.

But more importantly, it’s a win-win for local gym-goers. The growing GoodLife-vs.-World Health competition will force both fitness clubs to offer their utmost in customer service as they battle to retain customers and win new ones.

So, back to Sherwood Park in Strathcona County.

The new 32,500-plus-square-foot club will boast both co-ed and ‘for women’ sections, according to a press release issued today.

“We are thrilled to be opening our second location within a year in the vibrant region surrounding Edmonton,” Patchell-Evans said in a release.

“We are committed to playing an active role in the community and helping all Edmonton and area residents get healthy and active.”

That excitement, of course, is echoed by the mall.

“Sherwood Park Mall is excited to welcome GoodLife Fitness,” said Sherwood Park Mall marketing director Tineke Buiskool-Leeuwma. “We are looking forward to a partnership to add value to our customers.”

GoodLife’s 23rd club in western Canada will offer all of the amenities the fitness firm is known for, including:

• Cardiovascular and strength-training equipment;

• Cardio theatre entertainment system with plasma TV’s;

• Group EXercise Studio;

• Group Cycling Studio;

• Hot yoga;

• Deluxe locker rooms;

• Child minding

• Large exterior windows and skylights;

• More than 75 pieces of cardio equipment;

• Access to the shopping mall;

• The edgy Les Mills group exercise programs such as BodyFlow (yoga moves), BodyJam (dance-based exercise to great music) and RPM (indoor cycling);

• Personal training;

• A virtual reality fitness and health assessment tool called the Visual Fitness Planner.
