Bills vs Jags — countdown to kickoff

IMG_1492ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Pre-game observations and news items (updated at 11:40 am ET) before the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills get it on in front of probably 20,000-odd empty seats at Ralph Wilson Stadium (between unsolds and no-shows):

– BILLS ACTIVES/INACTIVES:  QB Tarvaris Jackson, WR Donald Jones, CB Aaron Williams, LB Kirk Morrison, OL Thomas Welch, DE Chris Kelsay, DE Mark Anderson. So T.J. Graham will make his first career start at WR.

– JAGUARS ACTIVES/INACTIVES: DE Jason Babin, acquired off waivers from the Eagles, will start for the Jags. Jax inactives are: WR Toney Clemons, CB Derek Cox, RB Jordan Todman, RB Maurice Jones-Drew, C/G Steve Vallos, DE Austen Lane and DT Jeris Pendleton.

– WEATHER. The Bills must be behind on their payments to Mother Nature. When they get a Florida team in here in December, it shouldn’t be like this. Latest forecast calls for 50F at kickoff (balmy for this time of year here) but overcast and rain likely all the way through. Plus a stiff wind — SW 20 mph expecte, right to left across your HD screen if you’re able to watch it (blacked out in WNY and CentOntario). It’s been gusting occasionally.

– WARMUPS. Jags began loosening up before 10 am ET. Most in sweats. A couple brave souls in shorts and shirtsleeves. Winter hats and shorts is not a combo you often see on the streets.

– FUTURE PROSPECTS. The Punt, Pass & Kick Team Championships event was held here earlier this morning. Still awaiting the kids’ combine numbers. Mayock no doubt has ‘em already.

– SCOBEE DO: Jaguars PK Josh Scobee was attempting 60-yarders in warmups with the wind seemingly at his back. Kept coming up short. Turned around, move the ball a few more yards, then made two 57-yarders into the wind the other way.
