Gardens Party …

- December 12th, 2012

The Maple Leaf Gardens era was before their time, but current Leafs Phil Kessel and captain Dion Phaneuf will get a chance to skate on the re-vamped site of the historic old rink.

That’s about as good as it gets for NHL fans in Toronto as the lockout continues to drag on.

Phaneuf and Kessel will be a part of Tampa Bay Lightning star Steven Stamkos’ team in a game to be placed next Wednesday, Dec. 19 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, the former MLG.

The pair will be part of a charity game staged by the NHLPA and RBC. Others scheduled to play so far are other Leafs John-Michael Liles and Mike Komisarek as well as former Leafs Tomas Kaberle and Kris Versteeg. The other captain will be Montreal defenceman P.K. Subban.

Other NHLers currently committed to play include Logan Couture, James Neal and Niklas Kronwall. Proceeds from tickets (at $25 each) will go to charity.
